farglebargle -> Herman Cain quotes Pokeman Movie Theme Song... (8/13/2011 5:10:50 AM)

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/08/did_herman_cain_know_he_was_qu.html

At last night's Republican debate, presidential candidate Herman Cain quoted a 'poet' as saying "life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it's never easy when there's so much on the line." These are lyrics from the theme song to the movie "Pokemon: The Movie 2000."

HannahLynHeather -> RE: Herman Cain quotes Pokeman Movie Theme Song... (8/13/2011 10:39:50 AM)

so fucking what?
what the fuck is that supposed to prove? that maybe he doesn't care where an appropriate quote comes from, that maybe it doesn't matter, maybe apt is apt?

fucking waste of time partisan bullshit is what this is.

Sure, obviously attention to detail is not on your list of important attributes.

Aylee -> RE: Herman Cain quotes Pokeman Movie Theme Song... (8/13/2011 12:13:59 PM)

I thought that song writer lyrics were considered poets.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Herman Cain quotes Pokeman Movie Theme Song... (8/13/2011 12:34:29 PM)

While some may believe they are poets the answer is no.

More spin.

It was one of Donna Summer's biggest hits from the late 90s until the late 2000s. His knowledge of it more than likely has nothing to do with the movie.

After your answer I did a bit of internet looking. It appears that it is quite the raging argument on whether song lyricists are poets or not and whether song lyrics are poetry.

So I suppose it depends on which side of that literary battlefield you stand on.

I will say that:

'Life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it's never easy when there's so much on the line.'

Is less than pithy and rather trite to my mind.

attention to what fucking detail? i don't see anywhere where the fucker says he made the line up, or that he got it from a book of churchill quotes? what detail was he overlooking?

that's a demonstrably fucking stupid thing to say, i take it you've never heard of leonard cohen? besides, what does it fucking matter if its poetry or lyrics, or some crap he read off a bathroom wall? you're just reaching for any fucking reason to dismiss the fucker, and it's as pathetic when you do it as when the righttards bitch about obama's teleprompter.

if you can't find something substantive to dispute the position of a politco with then just shut the fuck up.

Art for art sake.

Whether it`s poetry or lyrics us irrelevant.

Those two different words are to describe two different art forms.

Quoting a song, calling it a poem just makes the guy look dumb.

If that`s the case,he`s only re-enforcing a perception that`s he`s been working on.

Folksy-dumb.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Herman Cain quotes Pokeman Movie Theme Song... (8/13/2011 3:03:34 PM)

Why saying stupid shit has never stopped you from posting.  You do it everyday.

Old Leonard wrote poems AND he wrote songs.  I see you have trouble with the difference.

When they start crediting songwriters as Poets rather than lyricist get back to me.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: Herman Cain quotes Pokeman Movie Theme Song... (8/13/2011 3:17:05 PM)

no, you're just fucking nit picking, a poem is a lyric that hasn't been set to music, and a lyric is a poem that has. the difference is just semantics and you know it.

like i said if you've got nothing of substance then fuck off.

it's this idiotic pettiness, this searching for the dumbest reasons to cut down the other side that is dragging the political debate in your country into the fucking trash heap and making you the laughing stock of the planet.

and you wonder where the rest of the world gets the idea that americans are all ignorant fucks. well look no further, the answer is right here folks, right fucking here.

btw if anybody is interested, the words were written by mervyn warren, not donna summer.

a good number of his song lyrics were published first as poems, and a good number of his published poems were first made available as song lyrics. so which were they einstein? poems or lyrics, you tell me.

They are definitely poems. Whether they every became "music" is debateable. [:D]

Yep, with every post you make.

That is your MO after all.  You say make shitty responses in a bitchy manner and become indignant when it is given back to you.

That's why you have this huge problem with Domi.

Have fun, I am off to important things.  I have friends with kids who were playing in the regional finals of the LLWS and I didn't get to watch the game.  I'm gonna settle in with the replay.

Then I might to a poetry reading with some lyrics by great poets.  Maybe I'll start with "Oh me so horny oh me so horny".  Luther Campbell that great poet.

Usually I like you. But THIS just chaps my ass. Leonard belongs to the highest and most influential echelon of songwriters. Just ask Lou Reed.

Oooo! Does this mean that I can call you anti-semetic now? [8|]

Aside from it's unethical to properly attribute your sources?

Yeah. I was CONSTANTLY being called up by the ethics committee in college because I properly attributed my sources. [8|]

On a more serious note, I have already pointed out that the 'are song lyrics poetry' question is a hot debate in the literary/literary criticism world.

You are a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
