grins Lillybopeep, did i ever tell you how stubborn i am when my mind has decided i don't like something.  I once sat when i was 7 years old for 3 hours straight in front of a 1/2 pbj (with that icky honey pb they used to make) while all my cousins went swimming.  IN the end, the sandwich went to the cat lol.    My mother used to try and make me eat my dinner for breakfast etc when i wouldn't eat dinner as a kid cause i didn't like it -- i once went 2 days without eating lol my mom had to give in.

You too, huh? When I was a kid, I was totally off milk, cream and all dairy cuz I got some sour milk once and wouldnt touch it after that. I sat at the table all day when my aunt tried to make me eat porridge with cream on it. My mother stopped making my lunch cuz most times I tossed the sandwiches.. so i had to make my own.. I was very stubborn and still am.. [:)]

barelynangel -> RE: Fat People (8/15/2011 7:39:54 PM)

Yeah well my cart now has $84 worth of stuff lol   And i don't know what i want to give back [:o]

if you aren't sure that you will like black beans....at least try them fresh at a tacqueria....don't get them canned. nowhere near as good.  I love black beans--esp. in burritos

Sooo the worse that could happen is they find the dark corner of my cabinets lol and never see the light of day.  [:)]

hahaha ^_^ i totally understand pickiness/stubbornness.
i was kinda notorious when i was a kid, too; then i adopted the "what's the worst that could happen" thing. i'm still REALLY picky about food texture and mixing foods with textures that don't agree. if i try something and put it in a "no" column, it's pretty much staying there forever. hahaha

you could try some of someone else's -- if a friend orders a dish with black beans, you could ask for half a spoonful; that way you're not out any money, and your friend will still have their own meal, and you'll still have yours if you don't like them. =p
if you do try them, go somewhere that has a good reputation for cooking other things well. you CAN mess up beans; i've had undercooked or overcooked or overseasoned ones that i couldn't stand and i like beans. hahshaa =p

and of course, you can totally not try them ever at all. ^_^ you'll still be able to live a perfectly full life, though some of us might talk about you when you're not looking. ^.~ haha
(just kidding. ^_^)

Oh if you were closer, we'd probably be shoving our faces full of cream cheese icing and passing out into mini sugar coma's...have no doubt of that. [:D]

Dogs are MUCH better than cats for slipping unwanted foods!

Anyone else have food issues because their parents believed in the Clean Plate Club? (Forcing you to finish food.)

NuevaVida -> RE: Fat People (8/16/2011 5:27:28 PM)

OMG the Clean Plate Club. At home we sat at the table for as long as it took to eat it. At my grandmothers what you didn't finish, you ate cold for your next meal.

Good times, good times.

littlewonder -> RE: Fat People (8/16/2011 5:28:53 PM)

maybe that's why I don't find food as all the important or don't worry about the clean plate syndrome. I grew up in a family where I prepared my own food, ate what i wanted or didn't want to eat, didn't have to sit down and clean my plate or any of that that i hear about from others. I'm not of that generation I guess. I never forced that on my daughter either. If she didn't like something I cooked then I told her to maker her own dinner and she did. She now loves to cook and is going to school to do just that.So I guess my not liking to cook and forcing her to make her own foods paid off in the end lol.

The only time I can think of ever having been forced to finish my food was in elementary school. At that time if you were a poor kid the school provided you with free breakfast. I was always forced to sit down and finish my milk even though I told them I couldn't because it made me feel ill. No one knew about lactose intolerance then and they thought I was just being stubborn. So I'd end up sick most days.

Yup.. i especially hated when my parents got into an argument and my mother left for a few days... then father cooked.. blick! i would end up being punished for not eating his food, forced to sit on the steps in the basement.. my brothers rubber boot is where it went... [:D]

OMG the Clean Plate Club.

We were made to finish it right then. What we placed on our plates was what we ate. We got the guilt trip of kids starving all over the world and how grateful we should be.

I dismissed it as a kid but as I got older, I began to realize the importance of respecting what was available to you and not wasting. Try your best not to take things and people for granted is the moral of the story that I went away with.

This doesn't work too bad most days out of the year...I'm less likely to fill my plate but holidays..Well that's when the pain begins! It's all so good..I might have on occasion filled it past the point of no return. [:D]

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Fat People (8/17/2011 6:40:17 AM)

The clean plate syndrome, OMG. My mother was a terrible cook, and she got really offended if you didn't eat whatever disgusting thing she was trying to feed you. Canned three bean salad. Pressured cooked canned asparagus. Scrambled eggs and cow brains. If you didn't eat every thing she chose to put on your plate on holidays, she wouldn't let us have dessert, and went into a screaming rage because she had worked so hard. One year, she made this "shrimp cocktail", canned salad shrimp and ketchup. I ended up throwing up In her shoes. That was awesome, but I have never been able to stand ketchup since. So, I guess I have food issues.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Fat People (8/17/2011 7:19:48 AM)

To be fair to mom, my parents grew up in rural Wyoming during the depression. I think they learned to eat everything that couldn't run away.
