Has anyone done this?  Any other cool ideas to do with an accent wall in a small living room -- 10x12?

I did this when I lived in europe and it was pretty easy, though messy.  Use a very lightweight cotton cloth and make sure you dissolve the starch completely before using.  I'd seriously avoid dark colors, though.

My recommendation for a striking accent wall would be to use two strips of firring... one for the ceiling and one for the floor... then pleat or shirr the fabric and attach to the firring strips at the top and bottom of the wall.

I always just painted the walls and just repainted them white when I left.

A quilt? Though that might get a little pricey. But a family member might have a family heirloom or two to pass down.

If you think it's too old-fashioned for your decor, there are some "contemporary" quilt-makers out there that make them in brighter colors, more abstract designs that "pop", etc.

You can purchase special quilt hangers that won't damage the quilt or the wall.

grins, not when you have a momma who makes them.  She has made me a quilt for my bedroom that she had to twist my arm to finally put away lol after 6 years.  This is a quilt she made for St. Judes:

Oooh, I love that, it's beautiful! Love the colors!

I would love to be a quilter, maybe someday when I have room for another iron in my fire, lol.

laughs and a lot of time and patience and MONEY -- i sometimes help her pick out fabrics and good lord it gets really expensive and that's not the stuff inside etc.

But i really am liking the idea of a combination of quilt and what winsomedefiance was speaking about.   Long panels maybe.  Like i think treasure and poise were speaking about.

Treasure good note about the lighter colors versus darker.  Thanks everyone for your ideas!
