krikket -> RE: Stood up, on-line?? (5/20/2006 8:43:50 AM)

A while back, I was corresonding with a Dom on-line.  i found him intelligent, fun to be with, with a delightful sense of humor, and damn he made me feel sexy -- (on-line does have it's advantages..lol).   Any how, there were several times when we had scheduled to meet up in chat that i wasn't able to be there, due to electrical storms, computer problems (back when broadband was a dream and dial-up the only option).  I started to notice that in every case, when i hadn't been able to get on-line, he always, always blamed ME -- loudly and at great length, and i started to notice that instead of making me feel sexy he made me feel like less a person, and somehow i blamed myself too.  i don't think he ever once automatically considered i wasn't on line due to technical problems, but blamed me personally.  i'm almost ashamed to admit how long i put up with that behaviour, but eventually i ended it.  i decided that the automatic blame he heaped upon me was unfair, bordered on abusive, and just down right mean.

my point is, if you've been "stood up" on line, shit happens, and possibly he couldn't get on.  i'd believe him once (or maybe twice), but i think eventually i'd feel like he was stringing me along, or even married (attached), and couldn't be on-line right then.

Just a thought...

Jimini Kriket.....LOL....that's funny and clever Jimini[:D]

Having read all the replies, thus far and having several comment on my experience I shall only add this.
You have to trust, even if it gets broken. Human nature is something that we all experience daily....lies, deception, love, giving, teasing, hurting,fighting,laughing...etc,etc,etc...  So, you got stood up on line....Phhhhhttttttt
So, I got stood up at the airport...Phhhhhhhttttttt
You'll chat again and I'll fly to meet someone else again...Why?
Because if we didn't who the hell are we hurting?
Eventually things will "fall in line" for you
and even though I'm waiting at the airport "my ship will come in."

I only wish that I was stood up on line. How about being stood up at the airport after flying a couple thousands of miles to meet?
It happened last year and the excuse I got was a text message that said, "you'll never understand, I'm sorry."
Now this was after conversing for several months and exchanging pictures and phone calls too, not just on a whim.
stood up on line  phhhhhhtttttttttttttttt    Please, do me the favor.   winks Kevin

That happened to someone I knew....I felt bad for her until she bought his story that he just got "scared" about meeting her....I never talked to this person again after she "forgave" him for standing her up in ANOTHER COUNTRY....lol.

Poor Kevin, the right one won't do that to you

What, losers online?  Say it is not so???

Yeah, I think Fastlane qualifies for the "That's Fucked Up, Dude" award... Another fine reason to avoid most contact with people... rarely are they dependable except to be undependable at the worst possible times... *chuckling*

Ask him what happened next time you chat with him. If he doesn't have a good excuse, well how precious is your time to you?

Hello All,

Thanks for the imput, I realize being stood up on line is NOTHING compared to being stood up in person, especially compared to what happened to Fastlane, that was beyond rude.

I was just feeling like an ass waiting, I did make good use of my time doing research on line, etc. So it was not a waste of my time which is why I waited longer than 30mins. I am sure this happens to others and is very minor, it's funny though, I have never been stood up in person, yet!
I assumed meeting on line would be easier.

It happens, who knows why..only the person who does the standing up does really. Like Fastlane said, it beats getting stood up in person. I have had this happen after a 2 hour drive (not after a plane flight, that's scary) and getting stood up sucks, no matter how you are stood up. Think of it this way....although "we" have had experiences with being stood up on-line, as well as in person, the really wierd experiences are when you have been talking to someone and all the sudden one day, they delete their profile. Poof...gone, never to be heard from again...makes you wonder if it was you, or they were just that imaginary.

Never ran into anything this demented yet in 14 years of playing on the BBS/Internet world.  Either I'm lucky, or cursed.  All of my vanishings have been off the computer after time invested.  Nothing pisses me off more than knowing I've wasted my time.  I really don't have that much of it left, either.
