I don't even know how to respond to this kind of tripe, other than the mind that must wrap itself in such knots belongs to one sad fucking individual. Hand-wringer, like... we want it but.. we're going to piss a whole shit load of people off, so it may be best if we just cut our losses and hope the SCOTUS does it for us. Oh, oh, oh, I can't decide.

I don't know anything about the daily beast, but this was off yahoo news, as was a Time piece attacking Perry. You can always tell who they fear most. Two days ago it was Bachmann all over the headlines. Today it's Perry and omg what are we gonna do?

Seriously people.

Status: offline 		I agree that there is quite the whiney tone to the piece, but I think the analysis is pretty good.  If SCOTUS rules the individual mandate is okeley-dokeley next spring, that will spark a backlash in November that might be big enough.

If that's true, then the implication, or rather the knowledge it implies is that a plurality of Americans do not want this legislation. That's followed by the second implication that, the only reason we care is we might lose an election.

Status: offline 		I disagree with the claim that overturning it would turn back the clock on the Commerce Clause. It would prevent an unjustifiable expansion of it. However, I think the political ramifications could make some sense. Obama seems to be leaking that his job growth package will include tax cuts (although maybe just an asinine extension of the payroll tax holiday, which is just a deferral that will require futrure payroll tax increases or would require deeper cuts to SS), and even greater spending cuts than previously envisioned.

He was forced into that position by the Tea Party caucus, more than anyone else. And now it is possible that defeat of his Health Care plan will give him a better chance of re-election. And a TP supporte job growth plan could reverse S&Ps downgrade, which he could take credit for. The ironies abound.

But can his ego allow him to admit to himself that he has done absolutely nothing he wanted to do for 4 years? Thats a strong talking point for the GOP, and overturning Obamacare certainly doesnt ENSURE his reelection, unless the job growth plan has immediate effects on the economy.

Pretty much.  What?  You aren't filled with confidence that they know what is best for us, anyhow? 

I think the individual mandate is an outrageous intrusion into the lives of the people, and should be unanimously rejected by the court.  I'd be in for a nationalized system, before supporting that rotten idea.

I think I'll take up smoking cigarettes again. Give them something to pay for with all this.

The ACA does nothing to fix the real problem, and nothing can short of socializing the system, which was the eventual goal I thought. Single payer is single authority. That's socialism but not in a good way.

Far as I am concerned at this point, live and let die. Really. Let the doctors and nurses as well as the suits who write their checks go to the fucking unemployment line and if we get sick, we'll show them by not paying taxes anymore. Buy nothing except necessities, and then when you are dead there are no necessities. They want to kill the goose that lays the golden egg I say let them. And let their system fall down around their knees. And see what they do.

You can't be subservient when you break the power of another over you. You can't be depemdent, you can't owe them, at least anything they can hope to collect. Die clean, I will. They will take what you owe out of what you leave behind when you die, so leave nothing behind. You see, just don't give anymore.

I am not saying it's easy, but when you come up with a better plan let me know. I will be listening.
