I also see he was one of those people on the '5 yr bachelors degree' plan.

But hey, it also was prime time for hippies, Vietnam, and The Doors.

I'm wondering if any of this was fudged. I just can't see anyone in a "pre-veterinary medicine" program being put forward after failing organic chem.

The Texas Observer has a bunch of articles about him. He wanted to join the cheer squad, but his grades were so bad that he couldn't do it until his senior year.

The requirement was a measely 2.5 GPA.

The American schools must not be that stringent. [:D] Not only did I have to make a certain grade (for each class) to go through to the next level, but I also had to maintain a certain overall GPA as well.

They are now, at least mine is.

2.5 minimum GPA required to take any junior or senior level class.

Going from the lofty 3.78 GPA of many years ago to the struggling-to-maintain 3.28 currently is just the harsh reality of trying to do this crap in your 50's.

Whatever amount this "work together" thing that has been installed in the classroom here lately, the cell phones going off in class (during tests), the constant cell phone chatter in the uni library might have to do with that, I don't know.

But the mind doesn't race around the track at the same pace it used to, I can figure that much out.

How about the classes themselves? Is there a minimum requirement per class? For example, you could have the 2.5 minimum GPA, with excellent grades for all but have a really lousy grade for one. Would you still go through, since you maintained the minimum?

I am surprised cell phones are allowed in exams and/or libraries. I can't imagine this is the norm for other schools.

Public Speaking Incomplete (for reasons of deceit)

Student has constantly and consistently violated the honor code telling blatant lies. They do not have any hope of attaining minimum standards.

And there you go.

But the Public speaking isn't based on content, but presentation, and in any event, in this "special case" the grade is actually upon his handlers, not the bumbler himself.

It is difficult to fathom all the overtime and constant vigilance required to prevent another Dan Quayle "potatoe moment" with the subject at hand.

Yes, thanks for pointing that out. The 2.5 must be maintained within the major, but a C is allowed from a prerequisite to the succeeding class in most cases. Obviously, if that happens too much (or much at all), the 2.5 thing goes away quickly.

To other matters; the cell phone thing, bad as it is (I got looked at like an alien when I naively asked at the desk on my second visit if cell phones were allowed in the library),  the classroom "work together" thing is actually far more detrimental to any academic endeavor.

Obviously some passed down corporate mandate coming into play on this one, but instructors are not always sure how to implement it, understandably. The blind leading the blind being a new but apparently irrevocable part of today's academia. It does help out professors who aren't very good at explaining things, and they are the ones who make the greatest use of this new policy.

I disagree.

I assume that almost any genuine pol would be schmoozing and glad-handing people in organizations when a college student.  Straight-A types would not have the typical people skills to be a pol.  Perry is no exception.

There are things about him that scare the shit out of me.  Lousy grades are the least of my concerns.

erieangel -> RE: How the hell did THIS NITWIT ever get a job??? (8/21/2011 8:06:48 AM)

The Republicans do like voting for people who were poor students. Bush the younger was a C student at Yale. McCain nearly flunked out of the Naval Academy an now Ricky shows he struggled in his chosen major. Geez. Well, they are always going on about "liberal educations". An educated person would get nowhere in the Republican party.

farglebargle -> RE: How the hell did THIS NITWIT ever get a job??? (8/21/2011 8:21:37 AM)

Education is anathema to the Republican Religion...

Fightdirecto -> RE: How the hell did THIS NITWIT ever get a job??? (8/21/2011 9:30:11 AM)

Perry appeals to the many Americans who either got bad grades in school or who dropped out of school because they couldn't pass their classes.

If you're dumb, you can relate to another dummy. He's just like you.

farglebargle -> RE: How the hell did THIS NITWIT ever get a job??? (8/21/2011 9:44:41 AM)

Well, you have to be dumb to buy into "G-d Told Me" as a motivation.

Here's a hint. The voices in your head telling you not to take your anti-psychotics? They're not your friends.

On that last point, I especially agree.

Now that I have agreed on all those points, not sure what you find disagreement with, but in case it is my (and others) objection to the "work together" thing going on at the uni at present ...

Neither I or any other serious student should be subjected to 'schmoozing,' 'making connections,' attempting to espouse daddy's political beliefs, or any other sort of nonsense in a classroom situation, where the subject matter can be quite challenging already.

After or between class time and various university organizations have traditionally been the avenue for such things.

Sorry fargle, wrong documents.

I need to see his brith cert so that I can find out what his real name is (and to be assured he's not a deep cover jihadi)

Regarding his bid for the White House, I would have thought one Texan President in a lifetime was one too many for most people - especially after the unmitigated disaster the last one was.

We never learn, the last Illinois President tore the nation apart, and the current one is trying his damnedest to finish the job.

That is choice.

Tossing out the worst situation this country ever found itself in, in service to fatuous and imbecilic mental diaper spilling.

The civil war was begot by the Rumsfeldts and the Wolfowitzs and the Cheneys of that time.

You know, the same sort you voted for just recently.

The guys in SC that  rode overnight to selectively find a Quorum to have the secession vote, while the others slept.

The guys in NY that pushed Lincoln to backtrack on his pledge to not re-supply Fort Sumter.

The same type that today have us in perpetual bailouts and perpetual war mode.

The guys you voted for.
