LillyBoPeep -> RE: Sadists, do you prefer masochists or non-masochists? (8/20/2011 12:37:56 AM)

there's a fair amount of "fond enough of you to volunteer for some genuine suffering" at work for a lot of people who identify as masochists. (this thread is addressed to sadists, but as a masochist who doesn't get the same "zazz" from it unless it's "real" to me, i just wanted to add that...) there's often this assumption that they are two distinct and separate camps, and they're not, not even for people who self-ID as masochists. people see "masochist" and they imagine that you're a person who instantly transfers pain to pleasure, or you're someone who will require constant escalation, which isn't true. sometimes masochism is just about wanting someone who will inflict pain on you for his own enjoyment, not necessarily about an "oh yes, that hurts so good, gimme more-n-more-n-more!" experience. i kicked a guy in the nuts once because i didn't dig him enough to put up with him, despite being a "masochist." fondness for the person matters a great deal. someone who can inspire me to follow him down the rabbit hole is pretty priceless.
