Try heels with platforms.  i wear 6" heels all the time at work, but they have a 2.5" or so platform.  Still takes time to learn to walk in, but doesn't do any major reshaping of the foot/ankle.  You still have to be careful, though....semi turning my ankles on occasion for the past 4 years has left me with ankle pains.  Once you can walk in those, the "normal" everyday heels are a piece of cake.  "Stripper" heels also tend to be made better than regular heels, as they're made to take a beating.  They make them in all shapes and sizes.

Practice, practice, practice....walk around the house, practice picking things up off the floor (helps with balance).

i like how heels look, sometimes i just don't think they're worth it.  Just me though.

Dear sirwoode, Ladies and Gentlemen;

It is usually men who drive the fashion industry of which the women are subjected to.

That said, I doubt if men really understands what pain is when walking in high heels, other than males who dress femme.  The whole body is thrown into a different balance.

And for some ladies, arthritis, injuries, practical use requires women to be in flatter shoes.  Girls feet have been deformed by such ill fitted shoes.  It is very expensive to get custom made shoes.  And, in my case--my small feet have been passed over and made impossible to find shoes that fit and look like a woman's shoe.

I also fault some places, such as malls that have put slick flooring down that forces women into sneakers instead of skidding and falling down on their bottoms.  So, the trade off of having surfaces for easy cleaning have been women's safety in heel that are high.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

When my mom was young she was not allowed to get high heels till she could prove she could walk in them. So she practiced walking up and down stairs on her toes. It worked and she surprised her mom that she learned how to walk in heels without any....lol

I think that's why it's so easy for me to walk in them, I've always walked on my toes.. no idea why, I just have.

Actually some children are born with short hamstrings. it is very hard to get them stretched and so they walk on their toes. Same thing happens to women that wear heels all the time, walking flat footed becomes painful.

Wow i give all you a lot of credit i cannot wear high heels.  I never could walk in them.  I have nice dress shoes with a very small heel and i have to be careful walking in them.  I wish i could wear high heels i love the way they make my legs look.

littleone35,

I'm with you on this one. I have a terrible time wearing heels. I used to love spiked heels, but I'm  a wreck if I try wearing anything over 3-4"s that doesn't have a chunky heel.
I am dying to try platforms. One of My former Doms was 6'6 and wanted Me to wear 8" platforms. Now from the posts I'm thinking there's no way I'll ever be able to. I'm 5'1 and wear a sz 8-10...makes buying shoes a nightmare because I need a 4W in width. (Oh  how I wish I didn't have duck feet [sm=banghead.gif] ).  Prepregnancy yrs ago I wore a 7 1/2 M, go figure.

All the advice given by O/others has been right on target.
I have a question about long term wear causing any foot deformities, but I think that needs another thread?? I'm new to any kind of chat forum, so not sure exactly how it works.

Another site you may want to look at is www.pierresilber.com .  My former Dom  raved about this site.  Maybe others have experience with this company and can tell you their experiences with them?

This is one of many sites I found when I ran a search on "high heel training" on ask.com. There are about 8 listed.

Hope this helps.

Peace and love,

practice, practice, practice. The only thing you can do is to wear your heels any chance you get so you learn how to walk in them.I was forced to lern to walk in them,My owner had me dress up in a skirt and heels and i was dropped off across town and forced to walk home,it was hell ,,but eventually i learned how to do it

kimba1 -> RE: High heels? (1/6/2008 3:32:13 AM)

i LOVE wearing heels, but with the horrible sidewalks and cobblestones prevalent in the UK and Europe, i cannot wear them as much as i did in the States.

Another key, I think, is to find your center of balance in your tummy. Suck it in, and walk tall. I had years of ballet, and perhaps that has influenced me, but when i am on tricky footing now, that's what i do, suck in, bend knees slightly, pretend there is a string going from my heels to my tailbone up my spine through the top of my head going to the sky. And find your rhythm.

And of course, the shape of the shoe. I find that the angle of the heel makes all the difference. A low heel can be way more uncomfortable than a higher one if it creates a shoe shape where too much weight is forced purely on the balls of the feet. The new trend here of having the toes point to the sky doesn't help either!

Practice practice practice, and enjoy!

i wear a size 5.5 so a 5-inch heel without platform is as high a heel as one can get.  i regularly wear 4 to 4- 1/2 inch heels to work.  i can say that after 40 years of practice in high heels it's not something i even think about much.  When i was pregnant, my OB nurse used to scold me for wearing high heels while pregnant but i just laughed at her.  After 12 hours i will admit my feet hurt if not wearing high-quality shoes.

Try getting high heel wedge shoes to practice in.  You get used to the height first and worry about balance afterward.  Just my suggestion.

Practice at home with a book on your head. I know it seems trite, but it works....lol

I can personally vouch for this method (well, not me personally but my playpartners would).

Any sort of practice will help. I've been told there's a...'gait' that you can find that will allow you to feel comfortable walking in them.

i was just wondering if any one had any suggestions, tips or guidlines on how i could train myself to walk gracefully in heels.
Thanks.

Train myself?!  Not me, my Master has the responsibility of training me. [;)] (sorry, couldn't resist)

But, seriously, i do find that positive thinking and visualization are very important in accomplishing a task or goal.  So, image yourself walking gracefully and comfortably in your high heels.  Image yourself with your high heels on and running to catch the bus or pushing a shopping cart through the grocery store or browsing for a book at the library, any activity that you can think of and as many activities you can think of.  The more the better.  See yourself walking, dancing, running, sitting, standing, up, etc., and doing it all with ease and comfort.  Don't let your fears or negative thoughts block you from what you want to do.  Good luck and don't give up.  Keep practicing and it will get easier.

On days I was off work I would walk around all day at home in a pair of heels. As I got used to one heel height I moved up. Just takes practice. Whenever your home just walk around in them.

DesFIP -> RE: High heels? (1/6/2008 9:06:21 AM)

Don't go from flats to six inch heels. Go up one inch at a time until you've hit your limit. Don't get started with stilettos, start with a thicker heel and work to be able to handle thinner ones.

Make sure they fit well and comfortably from the moment you put them on. Try them on late in the day when your feet are swollen.

Wear them around the house, take an emery board to the heel and toe and scuff them so you won't slip. Walk slowly around the house, no stairs at first.  Move one hip at a time. Move from the hip. If your hip doesn't swing, you aren't doing it right.
