In a briefing in August, prior to 9/11, President Bush was told by the CIA director that Al Qaeda was planning "something, possibly involving hijacked airliners." British Law Enforcement and counter terrorist agencies foiled the Liquid Bomb plot in 2006. Of course there was the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber, and the guy that built a "car bomb" for Times Square that would never have worked. Obama has publicly said that we have more to worry about from a lone wolf terrorist, along the lines of the recent attacks in Norway. The question is, will our leaders believe the people they have put in charge of dealing with terrorist plots, or will intelligence reports originating from multiple agencies and countries be ignored again? This is not a partisan issue. There is the famous statement that President Bush said to his CIA Director when he was told of the threat from Al Qaeda in 2001, remember the verified, "Alright you have covered your ass!"

Not much. Because now there will be blowback-- from all sides- from where ever we meddle in- to here at home- with people out of work- and social programs slashed.

They have apparently not learned much, because the diplomatic policies of this country haven't changed, the TSA is still using scanners instead of bomb sniffing dogs and our liberties are still being encroached upon. What they have done is build a whole lot of new government agencies that spend a terrible amount of money we don't have to be spending.

I propose that we declare car drivers to be terrorists and that we put them all in preventive custody. It will save millions of lives every year and tens or hundreds of millions of other people will not have to be treated in hospital or by physicians for car accidents every year as well. Nutty Muslims? Scarcely a problem at all. Besides, most of them do not exist, or were grown by our own secret services. Hm, the best way to prevent atrocities by existing or non-existing nutty Muslims, likely is to abolish our secret services, and to slay the responsible president when any such incident does happen, on top of the stairs of the capitol and drag his corpse by hooks down those stairs to the Tiber and thrown into that river. That will motivate subsequent presidents to be more wary.

absolutely nothing. can i make a brief comment.. we are trying to prevent terrorist attacks WHILE we do a military and defense cutback? please explain that one to me..

ok wise guy. what else could we cut back. please. enlighten me. dont mind me.. IM JUST ONE OF THE MANY SOLDIERS WHO HAPPEN TO BE STILL IN IRAQ. and fyi. I got my information from the CO.. soo if you got a question for me to ask my CO. il be more then happy to forward it

The Patriot Act is something that has appeared to do something to prevent attacks.

Yes military cut half of all future cuts are to come from national security. See debt limit deal.

correct me if im wrong. but isnt the patriot act to allow the government further power into phone monitoring and keylogging if they throught it was in interest of national security and only if it was in the interest of national security? I know that part from my training. but what was the other half of it?
