I had my first fig this weekend, at the age of 52. I had always refused to eat them because I had a bad experience as a child with those disgusting fig newton cookies. I am now sorry I wasted all those years not eating figs. So, what food could possibly be more perfect? I am planting some fig trees!

Figs are yummy! Fig trees once established are hardy and take neglect pretty well, , provided it rains enough in the winter. Mission figs are good, but my grandparents' fig tree had green on the outside/red in the inside figs. I have no idea what the variety is called, but they were the best!

yes, figs are great. But if you are going to grow them you need to know what varieties you are going to grow.

When i lived in Vancouver, BC a neighbour brought over some fig trees but I dont know what variety they were. He grew them from cuttings from his fig trees and they didnt really look like much at first but they grow fast. So, if you happen to know someone that has some fig trees maybe you can get a few cuttings and some rooting powder...

Figs are so very, very delicious. And to me, a very erotic food.

Nothing like a fresh fig. Unfortunately up here you can only grow them in pots and bring them in during the winter. Nominally I'm zone 5 but we get plenty of zone 4 days during the winter.

I certainly screwed up the title on this one.  I blame it on a kind of fig induced sub frenzy.

I dislike figs. We had a fig tree when I was growing up & I was happy to let my mom & dad eat them. I don't much like sweet things & figs are the kind of sweet that kinda makes my teeth ache.

But Chatte's list is just yummmmmmmy!!!!! Except for that kale thing. Never have gotten into kale, even though I know it's really good for one.

So y'all enjoy all the figs. I'll just be over here gnawing on my broccoli.
