Fightdirecto -> A Texas Church's message for Rick Perry (8/23/2011 9:04:18 AM)

My late Dad was an ordained American Baptist Convention minister. If he were alive today (he passed away in 2009), I think he would probably have put something similar to this on the signboard at his church.

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray in public places to be seen by others… But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your heavenly parent, who is unseen.” (Matt. 6:5-6)

I wonder why we didn't hear that passage at his prayer rally?

Ive quoted that one to many folks who get on Me for not going to church. They hate it.

It seems that the view that some of the most important religious activities ought to take place in private between consenting adults is Biblically-mandated.

If only the Religious Right obeyed the Bible instead of cherry picking it to suit a reactionary narrow minded political agenda.......

tazzygirl -> RE: A Texas Church's message for Rick Perry (8/23/2011 9:43:38 PM)

The passage is indeed cherry picked.  It speaks of acting in a hypocritical way, praying in public only for the attention it gains the person praying, instead of a communication with "god".
