If there is ANY way you can get your female friend/date to go with you shopping and help you pick something out, that would be ideal.  She will have an idea of what looks appropriate/good on you and also enjoy the experience.  There were quite a few times I took a guy to a club or fetish event and needed to bring him shopping ahead of time to buy appropriate clothing, and it was always a lot of fun.

There's something about dressing a man in a way that makes him look like a guy I would want to dominate, or a guy I know other femdoms would look at and go, "ooh, HOT!" -- and there are so many things that you can do WRONG with fetish clothing and bad combinations.  The fact that you said money is no object is even more incentive.  See if you can go shopping with her!

Even though she is just a friend, she may be fine with it if she has time. I did that lots of times and always had fun with it.

I've always had a hard time figuring out what to wear at a fetishy type of event. Fortunately, in the past, I was usually owned by someone so I was usually directed as to what I should wear (and it was usually not important because I was often naked within minutes of arriving). But if it was left up to me, I'd be the only guy in a bunny suit at a shriner's meeting. I've never been good at the whole style, or even what's appropriate for what venue, thing.

Since we're on the topic of dress, do any dommes feel that underarmor has a place in BDSM? It's skintight, elastic..I look good in it, basically kind of a second skin meant as all weather wear.

GddssBella -> RE: The Well-Dressed Male Sub (5/21/2006 7:04:18 PM)

G'evening all:

pollux, let's start with some basics. From the inside out. Pantie lines suck. So do jockstraps. Nothing worse than smudging that smooth line of buttocks to thigh. Find a comfy thong. Cotton breathes well, but I like shiny and know many ladies prefer it. If you can find one in pvc, perfect. Latex/rubber will just make you sweat and I doubt the Lady will want to smell your musk if she decides to do cbt.

Pants - Think jeans, but in a different material. Nothing is tackier than dungarees when attending a club. Blech! I don't suggest leggings because, no offense, but not everyone has the physique for them. From your profile, I can conclude you are not one to worry though. It's your call, comfort, both mental & physical, is key. Leather is HOT, so is latex/rubber. Unless it's very well air conditioned (few clubs are), stick with something lighter. Cire, spandex, lycra, or my favorite, pvc. Pvc is the ultimate fetish material, IMNSHO, because it's light, shiny, easy to care for. You could even consider stretch velvet or something, but let's stay on target.

Top - If you're secure in your masculinity, a poet/pirate shirt may be the way to go. It's got style, pizazz and shows a bit of flamboyance without making you look like a drag queen. Try to avoid a lot of ruffles though. We are thinking basic though. A pvc t-shirt with a few zippy round studs on the sleeve hem would do very nicely. You want to break up the monotony just enough to be eye catching, not a Las Vegas marque.

Footwear - Ah, accessories. They ~better~ match. If you wear a belt, the material must be the same as the shoes/boots. I'm sure you have a Hot Topic somewhere around you. Low riding creepers without any designs would be a subtle touch. Maybe a pair of English rocker winkle pickers. I swear if I see one more pair of combat boots, construction boots, cowboy boots or, heaven forbid, sneakers with fetish wear, I'll just scream, lol. Remember, keep it simple. A few silver grommets, studs, rings, etc. Nothing too flashy.

Jewelry - I will call the fashion police on you if you do not match these up even moderately with your outfit! Rule of thumb; don't mix your mediums. If you wear silver jangly bits on your clothes, coordinate your bling with them. A stylish rubber choker with a silver tube. Maybe a mannish link bracelet. One or two understated pieces, nothing more. If you have body mods that show, don't bother at all.

Remember, Ebay is your friend. I also have links to some reputable companies for certain gear. The "take the Lady shopping with you" idea is also sound. Who knows what goodies you may find this way? [;)]

Just a note to Proprietrix; most fetish events call for high fashion for the reasons stated by MstrssPassion. Google the "Black and Blue Ball" in NYC. You'll see. I just wish clubs would insist on the dress codes for regular evenings. Would liven up the joint a tad.

Stay safe, play nice, & share your toys w/ others...

ummm yes Rumtiger...oooo why not say it "Hell Yes"...especially just the boxer brief length with a cut off T shirt or harness and 'docs". I have always loved that look, but it is a look that a sub/slave has to have a heavy (muscular) build to look good in.

MistressWolfen -> RE: The Well-Dressed Male Sub (5/21/2006 7:27:19 PM)

I am throwing my vote in for the formal tuxedo, with a pin tucked shirt and an embroidered waist coat. Top that with good solid hoop earring and italian shoes (not patent leather). Very smart and dead sexy.

Rumtiger -> RE: The Well-Dressed Male Sub (5/21/2006 7:29:23 PM)

Thats me. lol

I currently have a black tactical model, mock turtleneck so my neck is still exposed.
I want some shorts too, not the boxer briefs the but the other models which are "open" [anyone that knows about underarmor knows tehrs no such thing as loose or open lol], I used them all the time when I was doing Jiujitsu.

Dollbecky -> RE: The Well-Dressed Male Sub (5/21/2006 9:16:21 PM)

Hmm I think my tastes are maybe not formal enough but I personally like bondage styled combat pants and a mesh tshirt(or with bondage detailing if it suits the cody brttrt) with heavy boots ...look good on butch subs IMO. Other looks I like brawny/bulky bare upper body and utitilikilt with combat boots  or a straight jacket and clubbing pants....oh hell I just like anything that would give Tom of Finland a hard-on :P

pollux -> RE: The Well-Dressed Male Sub (5/22/2006 6:25:51 AM)

Just a quick note to thank all the thread contributors for the excellent advice and for taking the time out to put your thoughts down.  It's all very much appreciated.  They have this great little book at Jos. A. Banks (don't know how many of you know what that is, but it's basically a fairly upscale men's clothier) - anyway it tells you all the little do's and don'ts of dressing well, mostly in the business & formal world, of course.  We need one of those for male kinksters and there's a good start right here.

I've gotten some excellent links to some online as well as brick & mortar places and I'll update the thread a little later with some of them in case there are some other guys (or gals) reading that might have similar questions.

Big hugs to all of you.

they have a very strict dress code -- either formal wear, full uniform, leather, latex, vinyl ONLY. NO exceptions.

Hmmmm... am I the only person who has a problem, on several levels, with there being this type of dress code at a lifestyle event?

In my experience its very common to have clothing requirements at play parties and formal parties -- helps weed out the wankers I guess. It also weeds out those of us who frankly aren't into fetish clothes and would rather spend our money on toys, books, or non-fetishwear.

For conventions, conferences, and munches though I've never seen a dress code.

Depends on the event.

I'd say if it makes you feel good, looks good to the one's whose eyes matter, and helps you not be focused on yourself, it is probably a good choice for a submissive or slave.

Let me give you an example from my life.

For has a latex and rubber fetish. His being in his catsuit or anything like that is a treat for him because by the simple nature of it being his fetish, his wearing it makes him focus on him and his body and the material -- not on me where he should be focused. He wears it for himself and I'm cool with his wearing for himself from time to time.

I like simple things. So his mandrin collar button-down shirts (untucked), cotton pants, sandals or no shoes is what he'd wear around me to turn me on or to serve me. Or whatever cause I'm more interested in his attitude than his attire.

So what I'm trying to demonstrate is that what one chooses to wear sends a message via material, fitting, fabric, but most important by how you act in it and carry yourself.

To the tune of "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top...

"No clothes, no shoes
and I don't know what she is gonna do.
Tight chains, black cuffs,
and I don't know if it's enough.
She keeps torturing and tying me up,
coz' every Domme's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed sub."

Nope, not me.  One of the things I like about the lifestyle is that there's something for everyone.  I look at this as one BIG scene for those that like the fashion of kink, the fun of dressing up, the glamour of showing off their creations, and the excitement of having an evening where everyone else will be dressed up too.

Those people that don't want to participate, don't have to.  Just like any other scene.

I went to a fetish party in Germany and saw a man wearing a white pirate/poet type shirt with a pair of close-fitting black trousers and a <b>man's corset</b> over the shirt. He looked HOT, HOT, HOT - very attractive, very masculine and absolutely yummy!
Thumbs up for this look!

Has anyone ever checked the price of black leather Armani pants? Yikes.
I priced them in Las Vegas, $4800

Black jeans, tux jacket and open necked tux shirt--VERY sexy and very hot.

I'll have to remember that, I could pull that off well.
