Again, for the the "special ed" class,

The special Hill Billy class,

And semi special class...

The article quoted in OP was referencing a specific CNN news report

Poor kid. When people show that he isn't only clueless but classless and asinine, he sinks to personal attacks.

Have you ever been through a hurricane, Sanity? Im talking about staying through one on the beach, watching the actions of people around you, experiencing the winds and rains and damage.

Have you?

Ive been through many severe storms. Walked through a blizzard and enjoyed that. Been near a tornado, which was exciting. Been in a fire lookout tower in a crazy lightning storm on top of a very high mountain peak, my wood stove pipe was hit by lightning (which that was an interesting event).

Never a hurricane, but I experienced the rainy season in the Panama jungle, which some days there that time of year are easily comparable to going through a cat 3

As Willbe wrote though, whats your point. Or do you even have one?

Yep, I do have a point. And, no, I wasnt asking willbe, though, as usual, he butts in.

I have lived through many nor'easters. Spent time in tornadoes, two of them F4's (1984, Bennetsville SC).

Each was a totally different experience. Its like comparing an earth quake to a snow storm... there is no comparison. You offered an opinion from a UK paper on their evaluation of an event they were not experiencing themselves.

Then you added your opinion on an event you have yet experienced yourself.

While you may want to just poke fun at some silly news event, your op was extremely misleading. Many crazy people are out and about during a hurricane, doesnt mean they should be, that it is even remotely safe to do so.... or it could mean that the eye of the storm was passing through.... or it could even mean that the rain bands at that moment were quiet...

If you need to explain the bands, I will do so.

And yes willbe, I know which storm you are hinting at. And it wasnt as big as Irene. If that is your comparison, its not much of one. I went through Hugo (cat 4) while living in Myrtle Beach. Went through Floyd (cat 2) while in the same area.

nor would I sit and give an opinion on a massive earth quake, poking fun at others and belittling them when I have never been in one before.

Live through it to appreciate it? Nope.

Live through it to criticize how someone else is handling it? I think you do.

Then we disagree...how "unsual" :)

And I'll take an earthquake over being on the road during a blizzard anyday.

Again... for the very special leftists among us:

The article was poking fun at an asinine CNN reporter.

And no, I dont have to be an asinine CNN reporter to see the humor in it.

Jesus.  How big of an earthquake have you been in?  You can ride out a blizzard in your car with a good sleeping bag, some water, and some food.  It's not going to damage infrastructure (water, gas, sewer, buried fiber optic cables), foundations, bridges, walls, and put your kitchen in the dining room.

I was in the Loma Prieta quake, and in Santa Barbara during the Northridge quake and would take a blizzard any day.  And yes, I've driven through freezing rain, ice fog, and sleet driving from Texas to OKC, along with a host of ugly weather here in Ohio.

I spent 5 days in a northeaster, traversing north from Florida to Massachusettes. It was the most god-awful storm I've ever been in. I mean, 5 days of 40-50 seas, 20 year navy vets puking, a breach forward that flooded the forward berthing compartments and sent a wall of water racing down the midships passageway, feeling the bow dig into the side of another monster, watching the forecastle disappear and feeling the ship shake and shudder its way back out. It was the kind of days where you could stand at the bottom of a ladder and wait for the ship to fall, take one step and be at the top.

Also rode out a hurricane once. It was like friggin nothing compared to the nor'easter. Yeah it was bad for a day but hell, it went away. That damned winter storm lasted forever.

I lived in Chatsworth for the Northridge quake. You dont get much closer to the epicenter. A $70k renovation that took 4 months was basically destroyed. The 20 seconds of anxiety doesnt even come close to the hours of stress of at least 4 blizzards Ive been stuck in and cars sliding into or just missing me. One daylight 2 hour trip turned into 5 1/2 hours of driving at night in visibility of less than 6 feet in the Pine Barrens of NJ, through an Army base where there could have been a tank around the next corner. Ill take those 20 seconds any day.

Was that what they call an extra-tropical hurricane like the perfect storm?

Try sitting through a monster thunder storm up in it, on top of a high mountain peak sometime. The experience is practically indescribable

Best term that comes close might be "awe inspiring"
