yes, Im happy, sue me!!!
Judge blocks parts of Texas abortion law on sonograms
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/31/us-abortion-texas-idUSTRE77U06F20110831
(Reuters) - A federal judge temporarily blocked key provisions of a Texas abortion law on Tuesday that would require women seeking the procedure to view a sonogram and listen to the heartbeat of their fetus.

The law, which had been due to go into effect on Thursday, was a major part of Republican Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry's agenda in this year's Texas legislative session.

But the judge, in a victory for abortion rights activists, ruled in a preliminary injunction that there was cause to believe such a requirement was an unconstitutional burden on doctors.

AND
AND two in one day...wooohooooo

WICHITA, Kan. -- A federal judge ordered Kansas to immediately resume funding a Planned Parenthood chapter on the same quarterly schedule that existed before a new state law stripped it of all federal funding for non-abortion services.

U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten on Tuesday rejected the state's request that it pay Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri monthly and only for services provided.

The judge also declined to order Planned Parenthood to post a bond in the event the state prevailed in the lawsuit.

Planned Parenthood has sued to block a provision of the state budget preventing the organization from receiving any of the state's share of federal family planning dollars.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 6:40:25 AM)

I'm confused. The Right complains about the 'nanny state' and then they force unnecessary medical tests onto people.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 7:16:56 AM)

No need to be confused.  Their calls for less Government do not apply to the ridiculous Government they want to thrust upon you.

Marc2b -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 7:51:19 AM)

I'm split on this one.

Ordering doctors to perform medical tests that the patient does not need and/or wants is a gross violation of medical privacy.

I do not however see any reason why Planned Parenthood - or any non govermental agency - should be entitled to tax payer money.

Lucylastic -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 7:56:13 AM)

big surprise there

So, you oppose funding the Regional Trauma Center in the hospital in your area? You're against "LifeFlight", and think that we shouldn't be subsidizing the helicopters to bring critically wounded trauma patients to the hospital when an ambulance can't reach them in time?

You oppose having the roads those ambulances drive on paved? You oppose having the lines strung for traffic lights, and those lights bought, installed, serviced and operated?

You oppose putting in and running streetlights at night?

Because that's where your tax dollars go. Government doesn't "Do" infrastructure anymore. They contract it out, and our tax dollars go.... To a non-governmental organization... A "Company" or "Corporation", specifically, as opposed to the other usage of NGO ( implying a non-profit, I suppose? )

Is your opposition that our tax dollars are going to a Non-profit, rather than a for-profit corporation? I guess you hate the local symphony orchestra, too...

tazzygirl -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 8:05:10 AM)

Because its the federal law.

Title X

The Crazy Republican Religious Extremists HATESES the nasties Title X, they does....

The Crazy Republican Religious Extremists think, "It's their own fault they're poor, so why spend money on their medical care. Anyway, when they die, they'll go to a better place so it's for the better, really"...

They'd rather a woman die and be with Jesus than get a pelvic exam...

True story.

No. My opposistion is to entitlement mentality... it is whiney and immature.

You are jumping to false conclusions based upon erroneous presumptions for the purposes of creating a strawman argument. It does not, despite what people like yourself believe, automatically follow that a person who wants lower tax rates wants to see no taxes just as it does not follow that a person who wants to see taxes raised wants to see a one hundred percet tax rate. It does not follow that a person who believes in smaller government would support no government, nor does it follow that a person who desires increased government wants a dictatorship. The tendency of people like yourself to group things together ("If so and so believes A then they must also believe B, C, D and E... and, of course, anyone who believes E is a stupid, immoral, asshole") is a major reason why most political dialogue is nothing more than a shit flinging contest. A search for a cheap ego stroke-off (oh look how wonderfully moral I am am... ohh... ohh... oh yeah!).

I never said that I would be opposed to funding Planned Parenthood. I said that they should not be entitled to tax payer money. Any money they get should be considered a gift and they should be damn grateful for it instead of acting like they are somehow being ripped off because they are getting less of other peoples money.

Lucylastic -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 10:13:43 AM)

when their funding is cut , threatened to be cut for outright lies.
you are damn straight they have every RIGHT to be pissed and fight it.
I believe what they do is vitally more important than being allowed to be cut because it offends some religious views.
Why are my views any less important or right than yours??? oops guess what, they arent...

They receive tax payer money because of Title X and because they are a service provider under Medicaid. See the reason now?

They're already banned from using federal money to pay for abortions. The issue is the same as state lotteries. When money arrives, it frees up money that would have been used for other things, to provide the very services prohibited by federal money. So it's like paying for it anyway, just in a round about way.

I don't see a need for sonograms, just as the left doesn't see a need to observe the child they're killing. I can understand that.

As far as the services themselves, I'll admit I'm on a fence when it comes to them. A couple of states have already changed, and had their change to law upheld, to define life as beginning at conception. So there are probably pending battles to come in that regard too.  Either way, I can see those who don't support abortion, which isn't necessarily a religious right perspective, having a problem with the money being used as it is. Sure they drive it a lot, but fact of the matter is, the general population supports the right to an extent, and the support dwindles past that extent. Meaning, first term abortions generally get the nod as acceptable, but beyond that and with repeaters, the nod tends to disappear.

In both cases noted, the rulings will probably be appealed. Sooner or later I think RvW will be taken down. I say that because the absolute insistence from abortion supporters goes beyond common sense at times and beyond what most would like in their own households - like consent laws for minors. If they lose RvW, it will be the refusal to compromise that drives it. And sadly, we will then end up with a patchwork of laws that might make one a murderer by crossing state lines.

It's not a gift. It's payment for services rendered. Just the same exact way that the company the sells the streetlights gets paid for changing the lightbulbs.

What do you think would happen if one day you just decided to stop reimbursing the streetlight service company for their expenses? That's right. The dead lightbulbs wouldn't get changed. In this case, the dead woman didn't get medical care.

Are people more or less entitled to medical care than your entitlement to streetlights?

WHO THE FUCK CARES IF SOMEONE APPROVES OR DISAPPROVES OF ANOTHER PERSON'S PERSONAL MEDICAL HISTORY?

The very idea that 'people don't approve of repeats..' FUCK THEM IN ASS. They can take their crazy religious extremism and shove it right up their jacksie..

You don't own that minor anymore than you own the woman who wants an abortion. If you're old enough to get pregnant, then you're old enough for a PRIVATE relationship with your caregivers... Sorry, but that's what we call FREEDOM and LIBERTY, and any attempts to infringe upon that will always be met with the utmost opposition. Simply because WOMEN ARE NOT YOUR SLAVES. And they don't need to be punished for taking care of themselves...

Try thinking outside the abortion question..as you stated, abortions arent covered by taxpayers money...

Freedom and liberty do not constitute or infer a right to commit murder. I'm the first person to stand up for individual rights, but there comes a point when the "it's my body" defense falls flat on the fact you're killing another one.

farglebargle -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 10:42:29 AM)

FWIW, The Crazy Republican Religious Extremists will NEVER stop a woman's right to control her body. NEVER. If you intimidate doctors, then med-techs will do it in their kitchens. The only difference is that safety will be reduced, as there will be less effective follow up.

Period. This is all to make the Crazy Republican Religious Extremists to impose their "Ever Fetus Is Sacred" Sharia-Law on everyone else...

I know Lucy, but the money becomes interchangeable. The federal dollars go to pay for other things, leaving other money open to provide the services. It's word play and dollar shuffling at best.

Lucylastic -> RE: Religious Wrong gets smacked down again (8/31/2011 10:48:45 AM)

thats what you want to believe, the fact is they perform more services , 97 % more services than they do abortions..
to say its interchangeable is to deny what they DO offer ..puhleeze..see past the rhetoric.
