Sanity -> Obama: "Once again, Bush was right, and I was wrong." (9/2/2011 11:16:14 AM)

Must suck to find out you were so damn wrong about so many things, as often as Barack

quote:

Obama halts controversial EPA regulation

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Friday scrapped his administration's controversial plans to tighten smog rules, bowing to the demands of congressional Republicans and some business leaders.

Obama overruled the Environmental Protection Agency — and the unanimous opinion of its independent panel of scientific advisers — and directed administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the proposed regulation to reduce concentrations of ground-level ozone, smog's main ingredient. The decision rests in part on reducing regulatory burdens and uncertainty for businesses at a time of rampant uncertainty about an unsteady economy.

The announcement came shortly after a new government report on private sector employment showed that businesses essentially added no new jobs last month — and that the jobless rate remained stuck at a historically high 9.1 percent.
...

The decision mirrors one made by Obama's predecessor, President George W. Bush. EPA scientists had recommended a stricter standard to better protect public health. Bush personally intervened after hearing complaints from electric utilities and other affected industries. His EPA set a standard of 75 parts per billion, stricter than one adopted in 1997, but not as strong as federal scientists said was needed to protect public health.

The EPA under Obama proposed in January 2010 a range for the concentration of ground-level ozone allowed in the air — from 60 parts per billion to 70 parts per billion. That's about equal to a single tennis ball in an Olympic-size swimming pool full of tennis balls.

Jackson, Obama's environmental chief, said at the time that "using the best science to strengthen these standards is a long overdue action that will help millions of Americans breathe easier and live healthier."

The American Lung Association, which sued the EPA over the Bush standard, said it would continue its legal fight now that Obama is essentially endorsing the weaker limit. The group had suspended its lawsuit after the Obama administration vowed to correct it.

The only problem is that these are deferrals that will not be so easy to push off if he should win in 2012.

Good observation

Same shit as always from this president. Much like his releasing oil from the strategic reserve, "Lets quit destroying the economy long enough to give me a shot at winning in 2012 so I can continue trying to destroy it for another four years."

This doesn't mean he disagrees with his former stance, simply that he believes now is not the time.

Whats this?

None of the usual drivel that the president hates us, is in the pockets of big pollution, etc etc etc?

You only want to attack the messenger this time?

How... utterly predictable of you.

Because Bush was right, its far too expensive. Its too disruptive, it goes way too far, and it is disproportionately harmful to American businesses and the economy..

Wilbeur, it's getting very tough to find anyone in Yahoo-land  who will admit they voted for him in 2008 much less anyone who will come out and say they'll vote for him next year!
Seen any "Obama" bumperstickers lately?
Me neither.

Sanity -> RE: Obama: "Once again, Bush was right, and I was wrong." (9/2/2011 12:55:33 PM)

God damn! Now that you mention it, on Yahoo news articles it used to be a running battle with leftists fiercely sticking up for Obama 24/7/365

THESE days, leftists defending him are exceedingly rare. Everyone is hating on the man...

I guess we are all racists now... [;)]

Actually in LALA Land south there are still plenty of them. I try to engage the car owners in conversation but they apparently all have speech impediments because all they can do is stammer.

I'll tell you flat out, IT IS ABOUT MONEY...the really true elitist American culture. Money is what makes the whole fucking world turn...especially from power. (politics)

I am not attacking any messenger which is usually the first line on most right-wing threads. Obama is doing what he is being told to do. Look at what still remains and actually has increased under O !! Militarily, economically, security, name it...he is a fucking puppet, the repubs just don't need any strings.

jlf1961 -> RE: Obama: "Once again, Bush was right, and I was wrong." (9/2/2011 1:58:57 PM)

Once again the Republicans and Conservatives have proven they could care less about pollution and the damage to the environment and care a whole hell of a lot about big business donations to the RNC.

Evidently the smog alerts that ALREADY occur in cities means nothing, granted those affected are usually elderly and have lung problems and the smog can and does cause life threatening complications, but who gives a shit about people?  Certainly not the Republicans and Conservatives in this country.

If there was any true justice in the Universe, every Republican and Conservative in this country would be blessed with lung diseases that smog makes worse.

Its about, people need to work so they can eat, provide for their families, and have shelter. Barack Obama believed exactly  like you did until the grownups explained things to him, all of this pie-in-the-sky nonsense about green energy and green jobs is fluff, it isnt real. He believed all of his own hype until he saw that his policies were bringing the entire world economy tumbling down into disaster

Obama is being forced to get real, as in, Conservatives are all about reality and have been dealing with reality all along. He has been to school but hes still got a lot of summer school remaining. I am not sure that he really cares, but I am sure that he wants another four years, and THATS what this is all about.

Sanity, I suggest you read your own news clipping, however to AID your befuddled mind, I have put the applicable part in bold print.

Explain how "bowing to the DEMANDS of congressional REPUBLICANS" says anything that he does not believe in what he actually wanted to do.

I doubt he would have backed down with a democrat controlled house and senate.

But, by all means, spin it the way you want, Republicans and Conservatives are real good at that.

Sanity -> RE: Obama: "Once again, Bush was right, and I was wrong." (9/2/2011 2:37:33 PM)

Spin? [:D]

Spin is what youre doing, fool!

You really think Obowma is licking their boots just because hes just that kind of guy? [:D]

No, even if that is his kink the executive branch is fully in charge of the EPA.

He didnt have to give hated evil business this free greased ass lap dance... unless he wanted to keep his job by trying to turn the bleak unemployment situation around:

quote:

Obama overruled the Environmental Protection Agency — and the unanimous opinion of its independent panel of scientific advisers — and directed administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the proposed regulation to reduce concentrations of ground-level ozone, smog's main ingredient.
