Seems we didn't add *ANY* jobs this summer!
Was Oblunder lying to us again or, as some of the lefties will I'm sure try to tell us that it was; ..."someone else's fault?"
Boy, I hope his "jobs" speech is,....."shovel ready."

I guess that credit downgrade is starting to get felt.

It's what was predicted to happen if we applied the austerity measures you cons demanded.

What "austerity"?

There are only ballooning deficits, as far as the eye can see - despite BO's constant lip service

Well, that falls squarely on the house, those ballooning deficits the nutsuckers have mired us in.

Actually if you would pull your head out of your ass you would know there have been significant cuts in the federal budget and due to that also significant reductions at the state level as well.

As a matter of fact the private sector job numbers this summer haven't been bad the numbers only look bad if public sector job losses are also factored in.

Excuse me...

This is like warning a kid not to play with matches and then listening to the crying as the house burns down.

1) If you really want to get an economy going from a depression, there's only been one solution that's been shown to work-
Have the gov't start buying new stuff.
2) Requirements for new stuff.
a) Can't be roads. Japan tried that- they got bridges with half a dozen cars on them per hour.
b) Can't be shovel ready.
c) Has to be a challenge for smart people. Space programs work. An energy program which says that we're going off coal by 2020 might also work.
3) Needs to be in the trillions. Anything else is just pussyfooting around.
4) If done correctly, the economy begins chugging along again- and even the guys who work on roads get jobs. But the real trick to create high end, high paying jobs- and that can only be done with a challenge and long green on the table.

Can this be done without running deficits? Noooooo. Massive new spending programs are always going to run deficits- there's no way to pay for them within existing budgets.

So take your pick- deficits or unemployment? Seems like we thought deficits were worse. Still think so?

All that is needed is a rational and certain tax policy including sharp reductions in the capital gains tax, long term deficit reduction plans and a small/temporary increase in the bank's reserve requirements to stave off inflation from utilization of the excess reserves. The economy could be growing at 4-5% by second quarter next year if those are the steps taken by the super congress...if the half-Keynesians dont play obstructionist games.

"Yup, the lefties are trying to blame someone else. "

With that kind of comment- hell, I'll blame you. The Republicans in Congress are going to do whatever their constituency lets them get away with. They won't listen to people like me. As long as folks like you keep supporting them and throwing the blame on Obama- well, we're going to get what we've got, which is pretty crappy in my book.

These are the folks that got us into this mess. Seen any plans from them to get us out? Wilber's economic plan is utterly laughable- like a capital gains tax is going to spur investment- with no demand? Demand will only come when people smell jobs and paychecks- especially paychecks that are climbing.

Has Obama come up with a brilliant solution? Nope- but he's at least on the right track, which is more than I can say for the Republicans. But with you guys just throwing crap, it's no wonder he feels beaten down. He is human after all. So there are three options-
1) Pull a Harry Truman and crucify the Republicans- he did beat Dewey in a down economy. And that was a very contentious election as well.
2) The Republicans get some new leadership with an ounce of brains.
3) The country goes into the toilet with the Republicans saying "I told you so" with their hand flushing it.....

I'm hoping for 1. 2) is a long shot. and 3) looks unfortunately likely.

Isn't it interesting how the changes are felt?  Obama has been in office for 31-ish months, but still blames the economy on Bush, the debt limit fight was a month ago, but we can blame the lousy job numbers on the brand new crop of Republicans too...

Keep pushing those independents back to the conservative side, Ken!  You're doing a helluva job!

Who said anything about the debt limit? Not me. I was talking about the budget deal reached back in the spring which is not so coincidentally when the job numbers started crashing which is not so coincidentally mostly because of public sector layoffs.
