Hippiekinkster -> Who has taken Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, etc.? (9/2/2011 7:27:07 PM)

I was just put on adderall and I was wondering about other's experiences with these meds.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Who has taken Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, etc.? (9/2/2011 7:34:02 PM)

Ritalin made me very tired and zombie like, I was a little kid when they put me on it, because I had adhd.

Hi, Hippie,

i have been on Ritalin before, but it's been years and i'm not on any meds now (though i have my days where i wonder if going back on Zoloft would help just for a little pick me up, xD). i ended up on the Adderall and Zoloft, though.

The Adderall, at least for me, had the effect of an appetite suppressant, too. So there's that.

Yeah, I have observed the appetite suppressing effect. That can be a good thing, in some cases, but it can also be detrimental in that optimal functioning of the brain requires good nutrition, and that can be more difficult to achieve with decresed nutrient intake. TY for responding.

Topomax had the same effect on me, and I've been thinking about going back on it as I lost a lot of weight while taking it.

Adderall gives great focus, but at least if you are taking the capsule form you wont be able to sleep on days you take it at first,

It is a great diet pill, it makes you want to be active, and you have no urge to eat. Eating just... bores you until you notice your stomach is rumbling.

It can also make you get really bad acne.

I also would feel very jittery, like my body was exercising or shaking when I was still.

lazarus1983 -> RE: Who has taken Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, etc.? (9/2/2011 11:48:04 PM)

I took ritalin back in my teens, but I can't really say how it was. I was another sufferer of the phantom ADD.

I know if you live near a college campus, with a prescription for adderall, you can be a very rich man during finals week.

Termyn8or -> RE: Who has taken Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, etc.? (9/3/2011 1:01:02 AM)

Look MF, why can't you do regular drugs like everybody else. Pot, speed, tea (PCP), heroin (if you can handle it), acid, like LSD as well as mescaline and all the other forms, even mushrooms. God damn, you have to go get pills when there are so many drugs out there just for the taking ?

Fuck Man, gimme some good lead time (notice) and I'll hook you up so good you might never find your way home. Im the old days I could do it in twelve minutes, but you know things change.

I have gotten some very minor jitters (I think they call this Akisthesia; I don't remember), but not more than I'd get after, say, a single cup of coffee. I (so far) am able to focus in a more productive way (I read someone on a very informative ADD-I (ADD-Inattentive) forum who asserted that our problem isn't lack of attention... it's hyperfocus to the exclusion of all else...), but I am still having motivational problems. It's the translation of the redirected focus from the planning to the execution which is the difficulty. It's quite easy for me to (as I just did yesterday) make an "executive action plan" detailing the tasks which I need to complete, and to categorize them according to a logical (to me) division of effort/time.function (for instance, administrative, which are the bill-paying, insurance quote-gathering, bookkeeping etc. tasks; maintenance, which is cleaning, house and car repairs, and so on; self-maintenance (grooming, diet, doctors, etc.); income production (repair/staging of townhouse; search for compatible housemate)... however, it is the execution and completion of those checklist items which is the stumbling block. They offer no stimulation whatsoever. They not only do not hold my interest, I can't get interested in doing them in the first place. I'm able to focus on things that I am interested in (I acquired a passable knowledge of German because it was a step in my goal to go to Germany for my 50th), but I often leave the project unfinished (I am not yet fluent in German).

THis has been a lifelong problem (here's another: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizoid_personality_disorder ). And there's the PTSD. And theres the sleep disorder (forget the name; basically I'm time-shifted)

Much of this is stuff that has been gifted to me by amazingly fucked up adults posing as parents, caregivers, etc., who left me to deal with this shit while they absolved themselves of responsibility (it's in gawd's hands, that kind of avopidance shit) and I've somehow been able to struggle through until now, when I've hit the wall. I've been trying to figure out how to fix myself, without any luck, for a long time ( memory came to me the other day, whilst thinking about all this. Twas the 3rd grade, and I and a bunch of kids were in the lunchroom at school, and we were talking about what we wanted to be as grownups. My choice was Psychiatrist. I think I was prescient.

Enough rambling (that's the hyperfocus thing coming out, maybe).

I saw 5500 hits of acid the other night.

MissAsylum -> RE: Who has taken Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, etc.? (9/3/2011 4:35:38 AM)

I was taking Ritalin when I was 14 due to ADD. I did well as far as focusing, but when I would come home from school, I slept until the next day. It got rid of all my baby fat, so I became "womanly" rather quickly.

I didn't like how it made me feel, so I took myself off it.

However, adult ADD is making me reconsider getting a new prescription if its still available to do so.

Adderall gives great focus, but at least if you are taking the capsule form you wont be able to sleep on days you take it at first, Yep, though i was able to sleep fine, if i remember. If anything, i can remember feeling zombie-like at first and my sleep was off with the Ritalin.

It is a great diet pill, it makes you want to be active, and you have no urge to eat. Eating just... bores you until you notice your stomach is rumbling. Yep, and i would love to go back on it just for the diet pill effect/weight loss, but i know that's not the healthiest way to lose weight.

It can also make you get really bad acne. i don't remember having bad acne with it, fwiw.

I also would feel very jittery, like my body was exercising or shaking when I was still. If i paid enough attention to them, then, yes, i did notice i felt jittery sometimes, too.

Good luck with the Adderall, Hippie! :)

Word of caution tho-   my best friend would still be alive if he did not 4x the dose of adderrall.   He had a heart attack.  I specifically told him not too.  But I think he was fucked up and lost count as to what pills he took.   He was so high he could barely walk most the time.  (last few years of his life)

Caution is always advised when using powerful drugs like this, as they not only treat the condition, but they also mimic and/or produce/sustain the bodies own drugs used in the fight or flight reactions (dopamine, norepinephrine, adrenaline (carecholamines) are all very similar to the amphetamines. They can mask hypoglycemia, raise BP and heart rate, raise intraocular pressure, etc. I have a blood pressure cuff that I use, an adequate supply of Diovan, and a med for my glaucoma.

To dreamofthemoon. Thank you. It's already working. I am working on things that have been on my to-do list but which have remained undone due to a lack of motivation etc. What is important now for me is to keep in mind that in the past, while I have accomplished quite a bit, many of my projects remained unfinished. Rather than spinning up elaborate castles in my mind about things I woukd like to do, I am trying to retrain myself to remain focused on one task at a time, and work on it to completion. Instead of imagining painting the entire 3-story townhouse I own as a rental, I am working on just one room at a time. Today I got all the cutting-in done, and all the holes filled. Tomorrow, I sand the filled holes, and roll the walls, then replace the plate covers. Then that room is done. Small project completed. Nothing hanging out there waiting to be finished on it. One little piece at a time. I'm limited quite a bit by chronic pain, and the inadequtae levels of pain meds for increased levels of activity. Physical therapy is also something which has been neglected for some time.

I believe that all the small changes will be synergistic. What will be most difficult is the reprogramming of my bad habits, of which spending hours in the Net, to the exclusion of all else, is one.

Ummmm.....  That's kind of the reason that they tell you to take a certain amount, rather than 'how ever many you feel like'.  You can't blame the drug for your friend's decision to take four times the normal dose.

ETA - Sorry.  I didn't reply to the original.

I haven't been on any of the medications listed above, but clip has some experience with them.  If you would like, I can direct him to this thread.

The  OP is the type to self medicate.   He needs to hear this.  I specifically told Jim not to take 4 of those pills.  2 days later they found him dead on the bathroom floor.    He took alot of pain pills- so I think he had short term memory loss- but he also self medicated heavily.

I have been on ADD pills for the last 30 years.  I fight with the insurance often over it.

I do not want Straterra.

LP- dont get me wrong-  I love this med.  I do think it is safe.   It has been around forever.  However use with caution.
