I see things like this all over the place. I really have no idea what it's supposed to mean, but I've never seen it until visiting here. Would anyone mind explaining the purpose and meaning of this?

Like D/s...just a protocol that some people use. The Capital Letter is for the dominant, the lower case for the sub.

so saying S/she would indicate that someone is talking about a female where they are unaware if they are the dominant or submissive?

I used to type this way when I joined my first online BDSM groups. It is considered netiquette for many who belong to online BDSM groups. It represents dominant and sub in the same word. "Hello A/all" is like saying "hello doms and subs". it is the same with every word done this way.

I do not do it myself, but respect others choices in how they approach discussing BDSM online. I choose not to do it, and will only do it if I am told to by my owner(I do not have an owner that specifies these things yet). There are a lot of people that have opinions on the subject, so be prepared for many responses to this thread...smiles.

Just my opinion and it does not reflect those of collarme or its associates...lol

It was done to assist people online in identifing submissive people from dominant ones. While there has been a case made for slaves in history not capping thier names because they were property. (I can not remember where the information came from) The use of such fractured pronuons for the most part just make things hard to read. I for one much prefer to see someone at least try to use proper capitlization.

Exactly. "Y/you" and "W/we" are also very common. I think the whole convention is kind of silly, but it doesn't hurt anybody, so I don't bother ridiculing it.

A sadist designed it so those of us with poor eyesight would get headaches trying to read it. When I see posts with a lot of the C/cap in them, I pass them by as a general rule because of my poor eyesight. It is very difficult for me to read unless I cut, paste and raise the font to a higher level.

It's become an affectation. It started out simply enough, a way to help determine dominant folks from submissive folks. Nowadays, though, there are those that believe it's their *right* to be capped as they are dominant. They believe it shows respect for the dominant from the submissive. The more someone demands his right to be capped, perverse creature that I am, I will continue to type normally, just to piss him off

If you're talking to a sub/slave wouldn't that already include them by default?

Good evening E/everyone

Glad to know that I am not the only one who finds that kind of typing, etc. hard to read but annoying as well. I will not only usually skip postings like this but profiles as well.

Now I have capitalized the "H" when referring to my former Dom (ie: He, His). I also always use a capital "D" when referring to Dom as a noun but when using dominant as an adjective I do not. Other than that...phhttt!
