My body my choice, your body your choice.

I will deal with my body as I feel fit and the law allows and let that decision be between me and God when I meet him.

The bible was written by men, not by God, if you believe the bible the only laws given directly by God were those ten written down by Moses.

I was told that the commandment “thou shall not kill” was a bad translation of “thou shall not commit murder”.

That then allows killing in certain circumstances, those circumstances are determined by the law, as the law determines what is and is not murder.

In a religious society often the priests decide what is and isn’t the law, however we are not a religious society religion and the state are separated. Here abortion is not considered abortion by the definition of the law.

This isn't about religion, it's about irresponsible people. For the most part, aside from medical necessity, abortions are for irresponsible people who do not use contraceptives and then don't want to take responsibility for their lack of caution. They want to play but not to pay. Stupid people just flat shouldn't breed.

If you want to put a religious slant on it, let's use the keep the sabbath day holy, do not work commandment (one of the top ten). I can shop pretty much anywhere on a Sunday. Am I the sinner because I shopped or is the store owners sinning by being open so I can shop?

Religion has become a convenience store. Use it when it is convenient and don't when it is not.

Then you should never breed. There are many reasons why contraceptives fail.

Oh please, it was just an opinion...not looking for a fight. I've never had children, medical reasons, and I've never had an abortion. It is what it is.

And most contraceptives do fail.....because they are not used.

Really? You phrased your opinion pretty strongly to turn around and claim your tone was meant to be neutral. But, knock yourself out. It's the forums, you're allowed to express strong opinions. But then, so is everyone else.

ETA: To answer the OP, i'm sure there are people who would like to see both doctor and woman sentenced to death for murder. And though i don't share their opinion, i can understand it. What's moral and what's legal aren't always the same. It makes sense for someone who sees a fetus as a person to see abortion as murder. And murderers are often sentenced to death in this country. i can understand the outrage of all these "religious nuts", even though i don't share it. And, frankly, i'm often disgusted by the narrowmindedness expressed by "nuts" on both sides of the issue.

tazzygirl -> RE: So Religious Nuts, help me understand your craziness... (9/4/2011 11:45:31 PM)

And your opinion, regardless of it being an opinion, is skewed and born out of ignorance.

Even someone who has been sterilized can get pregnant.

Lets put it this way....

Birth Control pill........... Perfect use will result in 0.3% failures. Typical use.... 8.7.
Tubal sterilization........ Perfect use.................. 0.5 typical use ................... 0.7
Vasectomy ...................... Perfect use...................... 0.1 typical use ..................... 0.2
Male condom...... Perfect use.......................... 2.0 typical use ............17.4

The only sure form of birth control that is 100% effective is abstinence... and then rape drops that dramatically.

So, before you start yammering about how women don't use, start looking at the efficacy rates of the different methods.

Aneirin -> RE: So Religious Nuts, help me understand your craziness... (9/5/2011 1:35:59 AM)

Perhaps everyone should be made sterile at birth, and a pill developed to make one fertile, I wonder then what the outcome would then be other than a selective breeding situation, those that have the sense and responsibility can breed, the rest, well they can just fuck and be done with it. But I highly suspect a declining world population, is something the leaders do not want as people are needed for leaders to exist. But in a highly populated world which is getting more populated, perhaps intolerably so, perhaps childbirth should be a privilege not a right.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: So Religious Nuts, help me understand your craziness... (9/5/2011 1:38:41 AM)

that is just about the vilest fucking idea i have ever fucking come across.

tazzygirl -> RE: So Religious Nuts, help me understand your craziness... (9/5/2011 1:39:49 AM)

I am not one to advocate selective breeding on any level. Thats definitely a slippery slope non of us want to ever see.

Who decides who gets to have children and who doesnt? Will it become a means test, only those who can "afford" them?

Its just something I never wish to see.

No one needs to decide other than people themselves, I mean, if one is just barely surviving on the income they have, where is the sense in creating another mouth to feed and back to clothe, it's just pure natural logic. Or is it we now live in a society where people who cannot afford to have offspring can have them without prior thought, because the state will pay for them, the state being everyone else whether they like it or not. There is as ever only a limited amount of money to go around, for each new unplanned burden, someone else loses out, a trend which will be seen to increase in these more difficult economic times.

And those that are infertile, an increasing trend according to some reports, maybe nature is culling the herd, or what we put into the food chain is coming back to bite us in the ass, but infertility is just that, infertile, so no kids, nature has decided, who are we to ignore nature.

Whether you wish to see it or not, something will come, decisions will be made by world leaders as the rapidly increasing world population will have to addressed at some point soon, we can't rely on the third world famines to control the population in those countries only, we have to do something too, addressing unplanned pregnancy is a start and as to making everyone infertile from a young age, hey, we go out and pay for contraceptives, where is the difference between that and going out and purchasing fertility treatment ?

In that case why is it you prosecute wars overseas against other peoples when the reported problem you seek to quell is at home, or is it, it is thought distasteful to admit your enemies could actually be your own countrymen ?

One thing through history has always been understood by those who wish to conquer in other lands; one must conquer one's own land first before going on to conquer elsewhere, and that because what's the point fighting an enemy at your front if they are also at your rear too.

I'm pretty sure he'd be just as happy to be prosecuting a war on the religious right.

Re: So Religious Nuts, help me understand your craziness...

So... you wish to understand another's outlook on life and sense of right and wrong? Then you need to walk in their shoes! For to do any less would only be idle speculation and as such only based on your own preconceived ideologies developed from a platform totally skewed from the one you are evaluating.

I have walked upon many paths as an observer... and I do not follow nor support any religion in itself... rather I encourage and support individuals whom I believe to be honorable in the pathways they have chosen to walk. So I allow... even encourage people of faith to write within the pages of my paper so they may teach the basic wisdoms they have to offer.

Yes, I know that faith makes many all too blind to the depths that help to reveal truth... but as I have yet to meet a man capable of recognizing even an aspect of truth in an unbiased manner I like the idea that there is a restraining and guiding force that helps him to survive his journey in spite of his inherent weaknesses. Many religions do just that… act as a guidebook to the journey of life.

I have noticed that there are many who like to criticize others and even feel compelled to stop others from living as they believe they should. While in some cases this has some merit as in stopping the Islamic extremists from blowing up another building or from taking over the world and making slaves of us all as is their teachings... There are all too many within our country who wish to change the lives of others… insisting that they live within only the “politically accepted” perspective and these people are actively attempting to do away with the inherent values and beliefs that made our nation great. They refuse to allow others their own beliefs and values. There are always extremists in any group... but within the group known as liberals there are far too many who seem to justify any and all of their own actions by any means they can prescribe to... even when there is no honor in what they say and do… and especially in the way they behave. They feel and act superior to any who walk a different path while claiming to be the supporters of different paths.... an oxymoron I do believe.

Faltron

A complete crock of shit.

There are conservatives constantly trying to impose their moral values on everyone else, from gay marriage to abortion.

What do you see liberals trying to restrict?

The"inherent values that made our nation great"?

What a joke.

Somehow conservatives have convinced each other of those"values" when it is far from the truth.

Then they bring up "the founding fathers" as proof of what a moral, Christian nation we are, which is more bullshit.

Benjamin Franklin was notorious for his promiscuity and Thomas Jefferson fathered children with one of his slaves.

Could it even be, anyone who gets into position of power tries to assert their ideas on their subjects, so does it matter which partisan drum is being beat, the effect is the same, those in power trying to tell others what to do.

I was brought up with the idea of to always suspect and where possible question authority, because authority has to be continuously questioned to stop it becoming a god in itself. It seems to me many in authority wish to be gods.

That's not the point.

The point is conservatives in this country continually talk about limiting government but when it comes to their self-perceived morality they want government to intervene.
