Not buying it pops. Not telling me that the person that stole them girls from college boys is the same one telling us that we should follow what those same college boys are saying now. Everyone I hear you talk about on here now ....went to those same damn schools. So where'd all that go pops?

Well, most of my "associates" went into the military and some onto Vietnam unlike most of those college boys.
We wearn't among the "privlidged".

Thomas Friedman on how America fell behind

Except he's full of shit. Put our feet up my ass. He sounds like Forbes 'Americans are going to have to give up their cushy high-paying jobs.' Boomers went to college, took on big debt at overpriced schools only to find Indians or somebody else, has that kool job...imported or exported.

The neocons took control, accumulated about $12 trillion in debt fucked the American worker granting China 'most favored nation' status and Nafta (yes, signed by Clinton and so was Glass-Steagall [ignorant bi-partisanship]) and now the bottom 2/3 are paying a very big price.

You are describing the very essence of the so-called Reagan democrat. They and their off spring are men and women who benefited from the GI Bill, Veteran Administration home loan program and many other government programs and then told the government to "get off my back". You are also describing people my age who came of age in the late 70s-early 80s who believe in the "everybody for himself" dogma that is espoused so much. For the record, I was only 17 when Reagan was elected to his first term, but if I had been a few months older (my birthday is in December), I would have voted against him.

For years the US public expressed their wishes with their wallet. It is they who bought foreign imports when domestic products were readily available and at competitive prices. When something produced overseas cost $189 and the US made product cost $229, all they could think about was that forty bucks in their pocket.

See, I didn't miss the point like fucking everyone else, I just decided not to bitch about it every day. Next time, how about Monday ?

And YOU KNOW IT'S FUCKING TRUE.

Enjoy your toys.

Alert the media.

But it is hard argue against the fact that the buying power of the US public rules more than anyone. Where else would the money come from ? Those who work for us at a quarter an hour all over the world ? Or might it be Germans who have a high productivity and are doing much better, but are much more well educated and buy much better junk that lasts lionger and is repairable ? Who work a four day work week ? Who have nice roads rather than CONSTANT FUCKING road construction, so they don't waste half of their petrol, or is it benzine there ? Not sure. They who can compete in the global market despite having a higher standard of living than ours ? How is this possible ?

Ask them. We have our feet up. Up in the air with our heads. All we need is war to make money. We don't need to produce anything for sale to others, we can just continue to buy and buy forever for we are God so we can just create money. Hell, every time we sweep the floor our money weighs more. It picked up more dirt. Some peole in other countries would not rather handle it now. And what's not full of dirt is tainted with cocaine. Only the larger bills though.

We grew up on drugs and half the people never got off them, but now the govenment pays for it. We used to have to go out and work to make money to get high, now you get on SS or welfare and you are set. I could get a check right now, I mean right fucking now. One visit to a shrink and I would be set for life, and not only would I get about a grand a month plus beer stamps, I would get free drugs I could easily sell for another grand a month. What kind of silly pride keeps me from doing that ?

I'm going to tell you, less and less each fucking day. I can pull in what the average Joe makes at a job, without working and have medical all taken care of and drugs to sell. Also I can work part time and make pretty much some money, and that doesn't count what I could make under the table. Damn, maybe I should just go tell them I am crazy for not doing this, that oughta be qualification enough.

But that would permanently change my status. I'll have to give it some thought.

DYB, don't be too harsh on the poor boomers.

They inherited a sterile dull world and gave it a bit of colour before proceeding to make all the mistakes they promised themselves they'd never make and have ended up just like their parents - the people they promised themselves they'd never be.

They did give us some wonderful music, developed some terrific strands of weed, pioneered cheap international travelling and the immortal Jimi Hendrix. OTOH they gave us Bush the Dumber, Willbur and Global Warming - who'd like to have that on their conscience?

Started promisingly, shone brightly for a short while and then faded into oblivion .....

FirstQuaker -> RE: Turns out, we boomers are enablers (9/8/2011 8:47:38 AM)

Interesting how it isn't the thieving financial system or the sleazy politicos, but the US Baby Boomer working class who are at fault, according to this thinking.

Yes, it must have been those scumbags working on assembly lines, plowing fields, or waiting on tables who are to blame for the world's economic mess, and who engaged in deficit spending and bogus mortgages, and who off shored the jobs.

Is there something in the water in North America, that makes people believe this? May as well blame the troops in Iraq or Vietnam for the wars in those places while you are at it

No, can't get away with that. The consumers expressed their intelligence and their poverty and is always at the mercy of a real lack of real competition in the US. For most of the 20th century we/us/govt. knew that the Chinese 'gulag' could produce the same goods at slave wages and thus put a tariff on their products. Politicians then were more than interested in money than the country. Nothing really new there of course.

Reagan campaigned on revoking MFN status and when Congress voted twice to revoke it, it was vetoed each time. Since, all human rights and the Chinese fascism gets a pass, that all but sealed the deal. untold $billion in tariffs were not going to be imposed as of the 1st Clinton term. The game was on.

In a matter of a few years for the first time in US history, we had more people employed in govt. than in manufacturing.

The American people now buy ALL or most all of their labor intensive products...from overseas, predominately from the regime closest to but not quite...slavery. We have no choice in the matter. Bitching doesn't do any good because they are ALL on the take.

lol If those goods werent produced in China, India, etc with their low wages, they would be produced using robots with pretty much the same consequence. If i were to open a manufacturing company I would use robots as much as possible, its as simple as that, you need whatever advantages to compete effectively and survive and grow. And a small company can even build its own inexpensive cnc systems. If wages around the world increase too much, well, those manufacturers will start using robots too. And yeah, its too late to turn back the clock but even if you could, it would be robots that would make businesses more and more productive.

Many businesses can stay or start in the US and not go overseas but only by using robotics. For business, its either adapt or die.
