http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2011/0907/Texas-wildfires-Is-Rick-Perry-being-hypocritical-asking-for-federal-aid

quote:

While the Texas wildfires provide an opportunity for the only sitting governor in the presidential race to display his leadership bona fides, the disaster is also leaving Governor Perry open to charges of hypocrisy from the tea party movement. Some small-government advocates are asking why Perry, a states' rights proponent and critic of federal power, is berating the Obama administration for dragging its heels in sending federal taxpayer money and resources to Texas.

Well that might counter the companies in Ron Paul's district getting fed money.

Since there is no hypocrisy, no, he wont have a problem with the reaction of the Tea Party.

He's the governor, he was elected to do just that. He may advocate a smaller federal government, but until such time as that comes to pass, he is obligated to seek all the aid he can for his constituents. That is the job he was hired to do.

As well, isn't emergency aid one of the areas that is recognized as being within the area of responsibility of the feds?

Yes, emergency aid is a responsibility of the Feds. However, in an age austerity where every penny spent is looked at (unless it is spent by the Pentagon) it is hypocritical to complain of the foot dragging. There are many emergencies in the country right now-some more important to address than others.

Of course it's blatant hypocrisy.

You build a political career and reputation based on bashing big Government, promoting small govt and lower taxes especially for billionaires. Then at the first disaster that exposes the gaping holes and inadequacies in populist discourse and policies, crawl cravenly begging big brother in Washington to bail you out of your troubles......

Of course it's blatant hypocrisy - what else could it posssibly be?

The only question is it as bad as the hypocrisy of the banks and Wall St who went begging to Obama for taxpayer's cash to rescue them from the GFC disaster their own greed and avarice had created in toto? Or is it worse?

Yet another glaring failure of free market economics. Add it to the mountain of existing failures.

No.
That is his job. He is doing what he was hired to do, it would be wrong of him not to do it. He is Governor of Texas, he is supposed to advocate for Texas. His job isn't to ensure that Wyoming or Nebraska get their share, his job is to make sure Texas does.
