I prefer to let you wallow in ignorance, since you didn't follow the first post at the beginning. You might have a "Eureka!" moment one day, but I doubt it.

If in doubt, just put yourself in the place of someone wrongly convicted - what would you prefer? A death sentence from which there's no return once carried out or a life imprisonment sentence, which would leave you with a glimmer of hope, no matter how tenuous that may prove to be.

I know which one I'd choose.

If the choice was death or anything over a decade rotting away in a jail, filled with bitterness in the knowledge I am innocent...
Unable to go outside and do all the things I love.
I would go death.
Boredom is already my picture of what hell would be if I believed.

You really showed me. I'll take my spelling errors over your logic any day.

So far you have failed to show that you posses even minimal understanding of the word logic.

It would never be guaranteed to get out, and the idea of dying of old age in a prison would scare the hell out of me. I happen to know me- I can shrug off a lot, but something like that would leave me bitter, enraged, and sure as hell not happy.

A stiffed life(for myself) has no value.

Too bad they no longer allow you to choose the way of your death, or I would want to go sky diving without a parachute.

I was responding to the "anything over a decade' statement.

I have a better idea, why don't you take a step back from playing the fucking race card and look at all the information you were given. There is plenty of more information available to debunk your very narrow minded view, you are just too fucking lazy to look for it. Case in point, there is five times as many caucasians as there are blacks in the u.s., there is also 5 times as many capital crimes committed by whites, the difference of those crimes, less than 34% are murder. A staple requirement for the death penalty, as opposed to the Black capital crime rate of an overwhelming 62%. Now sit the fuck down.

Could someone who understands netkook please translate this into English?

There have been many that were released and received large legal settlements.

You can't give those years back but they are still alive.

You mean, the one's who weren't murdered while in prison are still alive.

But leaving that aside, my point is that long prison sentences do not represent an enlightened alternative to execution. Locking a man up in a cement box for the rest of his life qualifies as a form of torture, in my opinion, and it should not suffice to salve anyone's conscience that we can always let the guy out and throw some money at him if we make a mistake.

Are you really trying to argue that executing the innocent is less cruel than locking them up until the mistake is found and corrected?

Some interesting premises there. Do we find all the mistakes? I wasn't aware of that. It's something we can count on, then? And he won't be murdered in prison before we get around to it? We have that under control too? Well hey, alrighty then! After all, locking a man up in a cement box for a decade or two isn't really so bad as long as we agree to let him out eventually if he's innocent.

Now that's a reasonable position that I can understand, if I ignore the (possibly unintended) sexism.

It can't be pleasant to be locked up forever knowing one is innocent all along. While I can understand some people preferring death to that, it's not a choice I personally would make for myself..... nor for any one else either. I guess that's up to each individual to decide for themselves. Which would of course, remove the power to impose death sentences from judges and courts.

That just leaves the question of why didn't just say that in the first place and save us all the bother?
