I don't see how the speech realistically addressed job creation at all.

It didnt. Even Kucinich today said "that will come in later announcements". Yeah, and the check is in the mail.

That phrase is being used more and more these days as families struggle trying to decide which bills to pay and which ones they will fall behind on.
Should the Republicans successfully block this bill they will have purchased a portion of this faltering economy and that bill will come due next Nov.

Frequent repetition of a lie does not convert it to a truth.

That our own President would resort to such contingent language in a time when so many Americans are hurting, is a sad testament to how poorly connected our politicians are to the Country and its people.

Edited because "prevarication" may be too harsh a word.

The Republicans will get the blame how. Because... all of Obamas other  massive spending programs helped average Americans so much?

Well, unlike your pathetic unemployed pussy-ass bitch self, most of us still have a job, and we realize that STILL HAVING A JOB is a mark of progress.

Of course, your dumb pussy-assed bitch self can't understand that -- even if you weren't living with Mom still and had a real job...

Stuffing my dick into your lying mouth when you open it is TOTALLY on topic, and therefore ( not that your tiny bitch brain can understand it... ) it's not trolling.

Fargle, how old are you?
And by "job" do you mean a paper route?

I only watched the first five minutes of that speech but I had another thought about it; the emporer has no clothes.

In his facility? Maybe basket weaving?

What or who is an emporer....and why doesn't he have any clothes?

So very true treasure,on the other hand repeated and persistent use of obstructionist tactics while offering nothing of substance to the debate makes what the President said....and what I have repeated a few times here too damm true.
Should the Republican party do nothing more than play fiddle in the midst of this economic crisis than they must, and will be perceived as such, accept responsibility for said crisis.

See... this is the issue, Mike.  Do you really think that the Republicans are "playing fiddle" and doing nothing but obstructing the Democrats?  Do you believe they've offered nothing of their own?

If you do, then you are sadly uninformed.  A simple search of the Library of Congress will pull up the legislation that has been introduced throughout this year.  The following is a list of the pieces that, from their title, sound like they may address jobs and economic reform and were sponsored by Republicans*.  These are just from the first two pages of the search.

21st Century Readiness Act
Sponsored by Rep Tom Petri (R-WI)

3
-D, Domestic Jobs, Domestic Energy, and Deficit Reduction Act of 2011
Sponsored by Rep Rob Bishop (R-UT)

3-D, Domestic Jobs, Domestic Energy, and Deficit Reduction Act of 2011
Sponsored by Sen David Vitter (R-LA)

Leahy-Smith America Invents Act
Sponsored by Rep Lamar Smith (R-TX)

American Competitiveness Act of 2011
Sponsored by Richard Hanna (R-NY)

American Energy and Western Jobs Act
Sponsored by Sen John Barrasso (R-WY)

American Job Builders Tax Reform Act of 2011
Sponsored by Rep Wally Herger (R-CA)

American Job Protection Act
Sponsored by Rep Charles Boustany (R-LA)

American Job Protection Act
Sponsored by Sen Orrin Hatch (R-UT)

*So that no one accuses me of overlooking the work of our Democratic Congressmen and Congresswomen, there are just as many pieces sponsored by left, as well.

The point being, that there are loads of reforms and propositions that have been introduced by both parties to address this economic crisis.  The ones introduced by the Republicans are no closer to being passed than the ones by the Democrats.

Are the Democrats obstructing the bills sponsored by Republicans?  Should they immediately go along with anything introduced by the Republicans whether they agree or not?  If they don't, are they then obstructing and "playing fiddle"?

You know... these representatives are put into office to represent their constituents.  That includes constituents that you don't agree with, and ones I don't agree with.  We can't just ignore that there is a fundamental difference in opinion between groups of people within the United States on just exactly how to address this crisis and just what grows an economy.

The idea of compromise is great, but often it isn't an option.  Say for example that you don't want children and your wife does.  You both feel strongly about it and there is no option of dissolving the relationship.  So just how do you compromise?

Well, guess what... some of the decisions that we ask our representatives to make are just a complicated and just as life-altering.

To extend the metaphor from above, it's like the Republicans don't want children, but the Democrats are saying let's get pregnant now and figure out how to deal with it after the baby is born.

It also isn't always a matter of obstructionism by the opposing party that causes delay... legislation does take time.  Granted, too much time when in the midst of a crisis that is declining as rapidly as this one, but there you are.  Our biological clock is ticking.

slvemike4u -> RE: Opinions on President Obama's Jobs Speech... (9/10/2011 4:29:34 PM)

Perception is everything Treasure, and as I said in my first post and repeated in later posts the President by dint of his address and with skillful use of the bully pulpit that is the Presidency has placed the onus squarely on the Republican members of Congress. Now you and I might disagree on the wisdom of passing another stimulus package(which this quite frankly is) but independent experts do seem to think it will help ,at least in the short term.
Macroeconmic Advisors,a leading economic forecast group project that Obama's plan " would give a significant boost to the gross domestic product and employment over the near term".Specifically they forecast that the plan would raise GDP by 1.3 % through 2012, resulting in 1.3 million more people employed add to that .03 percent raise in 2013. Economists at Bank of America Merrill Lynch estimate the AJA could add between 1 and 1.5 percent economic growth next year.Mark Zandi the chief economist for Moody's envisioned 1.9 million new jobs created if the plan passed as proposed. Now to be sure and to be fair all of these analysts note the transitory effects of this growth as the tax cuts and the spending increases are temporary....but there is hope that the economy will by
then be strong enough to handle the fading spending.
So it becomes than a political question...increase spending now in this time of crisis, and alleviate somewhat the struggles folks are going thru, thereby increasing the deficit in the short term or hold the ideological line against increased spending and figuratively tell folks they are on their own?
You might not like the way that this is posed but it is my contention that that is exactly the way the Preaident and his advisors expect the question to be asked.Again the bully pulpit that is the Presidency has real value...and he is finally(a little late if you ask me) using that pulpit.Perceptions equal votes Treasure....and the perception will be,should the Republicans block this bill, that they are dickering and playing politics...that they wish the economic numbers to stay weak so as to hit him over the head with them during the election....you might not agree with that characterization...but I assure you that is the message that will be hit on over and over next year.
