WISCONSIN: "Do you know someone who votes that does not have a State ID that meets requirements to vote?

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/129469023.html

State employee fired after telling co-workers about photo ID policy

Here’s the full text of Larsen's email:

quote:

"Do you know someone who votes that does not have a State ID that meets requirements to vote? Tell them they can go to the DMV/DOT and get a free ID card. However they must ask for the free ID. a memo was sent out by the 3rd in command of the DMV/DOT. The memo specifically told the employees at the DMV/DOT not to inform individuals that the ID’s are free. So if the individuals seeking to get the free ID does not ask for a free ID, they will have to pay for it!!

"Just wanted everyone to be informed!! REMEMBER TO TELL ANYONE YOU KNOW!! ANYONE!! EVEN IF THEY DON’T NEED THE FREE ID, THEY MAY KNOW SOMEONE THAT DOES!! SO TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!"

The key words in that article. 'Low level' emloyee.

EternalHoH -> RE: WISCONSIN: Do you know someone who votes that does not have a State ID that meets voting requirement (9/9/2011 6:04:48 AM)

So Wisconsin passes a law that requires ID to vote, but to not make it appear like a poll tax, the IDs are supposed to be given out for free, but ONLY if you ask specifically for a "free ID", otherwise, you must pay for an ID that allows you to vote?

Sounds like someone is trying to pull a fast one in an attempt to disenfranchise some not-so-swift voters.

And some low level employee rightfully gets fired for using (abusing) his work email to out the con?  Basically, falling on his sword?

Wisconsin -

The titanic battle between the haves and the downsized stupids that carry their water, and the working class.

A titanic war-like battle that the rest of the at-peace nation yaaaaaawns over.

Someday, when Wisconsin is, industrially speaking, the next Michigan, the locals are going to wise up and realize the political bloodstains on their carpets that was largely financed with outside money on both sides of the war was not quite the smart thing to do or the best use of their time.

Yeah, they are desperately trying to hide the free IDs. From their website:

Free Wisconsin ID cards for votingA free ID card is available under Wisconsin law to anyone who:

will be at least 18 years of age on the date of the next election and;
requests an ID card for the purpose of voting.
A free ID card is NOT available under the following circumstances:

If you currently have a valid, unexpired driver license (DL), you are not eligible under Wisconsin law to obtain an ID.
If you will not be at least 18 years of age on the date of the next election.
If you already have a Wisconsin ID card that is not eligible for renewal (you may renew your ID card up to one year prior to its expiration date).
If you are not eligible to vote in Wisconsin.

Lucylastic -> RE: WISCONSIN: Do you know someone who votes that does not have a State ID that meets voting requirement (9/9/2011 8:55:48 AM)

did they give a wrong date to be picked up or a wrong address to apply to, like they tried in the last recall voting?

And you would be an example of this?

I read that one of the fastest growing demographics is poor white people.

This will help them lots......not.

This will help republicans win lots.....not.

Republicans should be trying to encourage voters and voting, not discourage it.

No, you Union county moron, the bullshit was to your inane post. Broadband access doesnt mean a fucking thing. Nearly 100% of US households have internet access. You dont need broadband to access wisconsin.gov.

It wasn't Scott Walker or GOP that sent out that stupid e-mail, it was a part time mail clerk who was immediatly fired. Nothing to see here.

Lucylastic -> RE: WISCONSIN: Do you know someone who votes that does not have a State ID that meets voting requirement (9/9/2011 11:18:33 AM)

I guess you think maybe the FCC doesn't know about Broadband market penetration or something....

More Than 20 Million Americans Denied Access to Jobs & Economic Opportunity Within Broadband Economy

http://www.fcc.gov/document/new-report-more-20-million-americans-denied-access-jobs-economic-opportunity-within-broadba

quote:

Washington, D.C. The latest Broadband Progress Report to Congress from the Federal
Communications Commission reveals that approximately 26 million Americans, mostly in
rural communities located in every region of the country, are denied access to the jobs and
economic opportunity made possible by broadband.
While the infrastructure of high-speed Internet is unavailable to those Americans, the FCC report
also finds that approximately one-third of Americans do not subscribe to broadband, even
when it's available. This suggests that barriers to adoption such as cost, low digital literacy,
and concerns about privacy remain too high. The Report also notes limited broadband
capacity for schools and libraries as a further indicator that broadband is not being
reasonably and timely deployed and is not available to all Americans.

MileHighM -> RE: WISCONSIN: Do you know someone who votes that does not have a State ID that meets voting requirement (9/9/2011 3:51:51 PM)

They Don't need broadband to visit a gov't website, just internet access ...aka dialup

Do you propose 250Mil people should pay much higher rates for broadband to make sure all forms of it are accessible in the middle of nowhere?

Satellite broadband already can deliver anywhere in the US...They can move closer to civilization if they don't like satellite and still want broadband by cable, DSL, microwave, whatever.

Given that it's costing Time Warner WAY less than 47 bucks a month to provide me access, I really don't care if they report a few pennies less profit per share.

MileHighM -> RE: WISCONSIN: Do you know someone who votes that does not have a State ID that meets voting requirement (9/9/2011 4:07:03 PM)

I suppose it is unfair that some poeple live more than 100 miles from the nearest interstate and are being denied the economic opportunities that come with being near a highway.

Guess we need to build a lot more roads....
