yes, I heard a study on health they say babies who are exposed to little bits of germs have better immunities than babies who're never exposed to anything at all

My wife is chemically sensitive so we never use those horrific chemical dispensers. We clean with vinegar and baking soda. On the other hand, with the innumerable cats we have around, our baby is developing no lack of antibodies I'm sure.

For true cleaning of indoor air I would recommend the HealthPro Plus by IQ Air. It contains three stages of air filtration; a Pre-Filter, a V-5 Carbon Based gas and odor filter, and finally a HEPA Filter module. I own the unit and the company is on the net.. The other units mentioned are just toys compared to this thing - but it will cost you about $700............

I've had these cleaners and I love that fresh rain smell too. I no longer use them though because what you are actually smelling is ozone, which is a dangerous health hazard. I am providing a link, although there are about a million other studies out there that say the same thing.

Wow- I agree with everyone so far except the febreeze product.

I avoid perfumes in llaundry soap=-soap, etc. I wear no colognes.

I love to put fresh roses from my garden in my place.

I use baking soda for alot of things. Ants will eat it explode and die. If food gets baking soda on it- no problem.

If I just bombed the toilet with waste- and a I have a guest in the house- I will spray a freshener- as a quick fix-[to save face] otehrwise an open window works better.

Some people that splash on huge amounts of perfume/colognes---well bitchy me....ill stay home.

I also dont use a clothes dryer.

The IQ Air HealthPro systems only use HEPA filters to clean the air and do not charge particles to remove them (i.e. no ozone gas is produced) but HEPA filters are expensive.

I did alot of research before my purchase and your point about the ozone gas produced by many less-expensive models is well taken - it is bad for your lungs.

Make sure you wash your fabrics often, like the drapes, curtains, etc. These pick up odors and hold on to them. Even if you have alot of things, organizing them and getting them into bins will really help with your cleaning, or being able to clean. If you are on a budget, then just purchase at least one bin at a time, or one a month. If you have so many articles that require dusting and you can no longer find the time to dust them all, then pack all but what is managable, into the bins. You can always change them out. If you have collections, then enclose them in windowed cases.  If you need help with organization, I will be glad to help.

Lighting a stick of incense works for me... To remove the pong of a fart (The ones you forgot to light), striking a couple of matches works .. Something about the sulphur seems to remove the aerated Faroric Acid from the air....

If you just want the smell, and dont want anything to harsh, soaking cotton ball  lightly in vanilla and just sticking them in corners works wonderfully. They hold for a long time and are light smelling. They alcohol in the vanilla also tends to help keep my pets out of corners I dont want them to put thier webs in. Cedar bars also do really well for just lightening up are area. If you have somewhere locally that handles essential oils, doing a tea tree or citrus into an atomizer should do the same thing as what "fabreeze" claims to. Both are natural disinfectants. Hey, you learn this when you gotta rub feet. Wheww..

Ozone filters are extremely useful ... we own one ... we simply run them in sealed rooms with no people or animals allowed in, and then air the room out afterwards. Gets rid of a lot of smells.

We avoid incense because of the toxic chemicals used to make them burn longer. We do, however, sometimes burn moksa or pure herbs for the scent.

i'm the allergy group here -- any and all perfume makes me sneeze, cough, etc., so all laundry products are scent free and i clean with vinegar and baking soda when i can.  The one thing i've found for my kid's room (which has been known to smell like a dirty gym locker..lol) is the unscented Oust.  It's not always easy to find, but it seems to kill the ordors and not mess up our allergies.

I believe in good old fashioned turning the A/C off, opening the windows, and letting the place air out for a few days.

Gets rid of almost anything.

haha benji it's to bloody hot in the summer to leave the house open, by 12 it's hotter in here than outside almost lol. and our ac's never on, except when it reaches the 110 stage. which excludes most of the year.

I don't either pahunk I don't hang them on the line in the bright bleaching sun and leave them either like some people* cough cough mom* does. I hang them on a clothes hanger in the laundry room, they dry a little stiff but my clothes have lasted litterally years and years. I have this one dress I bought like 4 years ago maybe, and it's just now becomeing unwearable, due to it getting thin ish, and a few rips in the material I can't fix:(
