do those sprays that claim to make the room smell good by attacking odors in the room and absorbing them instead of just makin the room smell flowery by covering it up really work?

Status: offline 		I don't bother buying any of those perfume type things. For cleaning, I prefer to use things from my kitchen, like vinegar, or just soap and water. If, after my house is clean, I will use a very light scent, like lemons, tea tree oil, or lavendar, but very sparingly. If you're concerned with pet odors on your carpet, you can just sprinkle plain baking soda on your carpet, wait awhile and vaccuum up. Both baking soda and vinegar will get rid of smells. It just depends, on what I'm de-scenting, as to which I use.

Status: offline 		sure they work, they also get inhaled by you--stick with the natural things--fresh honeysuckle works wonders for ridding odors in a house.

Status: offline 		The best air freshener that I have ever found (and the only one that I ever purchase anymore) is called Pure Citrus. The only place that I have been able to find it so far is Walmart. It is 100% natural and non aerosol. Everyone that comes in my home asks me what it is and where they can get it. It comes in a citrus blend and also in a straight orange. It does not seem to cover odors but seems to eliminate them and leave just a light, clean citrus scent. The ingredients are: "Pure Citrus consists 100% of the delightfully fragrant oils found in fresh oranges, lemons, limes, tangerines, etc.".

Status: offline 		My chemistry fails me but I remember learning at school, way way way looooong ago that some chemicals can neutralise certain smells but whether this is what is happening when you buy air freshners I don't know.

I know charcoal will absorb certain smells, that's how those things you put in your shoes work. Disclaimer: I don't use them or need them, my feet smell like roses. However, air freshners don't spray charcoal into the room.

Status: offline 		Yeah, they really do eat odors.  Usually, even if they claim to be fragrance-free, they come with their own distinct odor (which is usually unpleasant).  Take Febreeze for example, sure it neutralizes odors.  It also smells like ass.

Yeah, ever since my science teacher told us that WHY we smell something is because tiny bits OF that object...it's very atoms...are going up our nose; has made me wanna put on a mask every time I clean up after the dog...   <urp>

I'm with you...I prefer NOT to use harsh chemicals.  Once, when cleaning bottles for a batch of beer I'd made...I damn near killed myself with plain ol' Clorox!  Anymore...I prefer to stick with the more natural stuff.

And...btw, I should confess I love your nic, she says sighing deeply.

Status: offline 		Here is an idea for carpet deodorizer... Sprinkle baking soda on your carpet LIGHTLY and then let it sit for about a half hour and let it absorb the carpet smells. It works... just make sure you vacuum well afterwards.

Status: offline 		grins you can't get a vaccume in here it's so dam messy. which is part of the problem. but mostly it's stale closed up air smell. I open my window open my door put fans on and it still smells like an enclosed room. probably all the stuff everywhere

I know some will disagree, but when I have any odor problems, I turn on the Ionic Pro! I have two of the floor models and they work awesome! I come home at night and it smells like fresh rain.  ; }

Status: offline 		Yeah, all the studies in the world claim that ionic air fresheners don't work, but my nose doesn't lie.  I don't like most sprays because I often find the smell of the spray as offensive as the smell that the spray is supposed to eliminate.

Status: offline 		they had something on g4 saying they actually were not safe to use but I don't remember what or why and my aunt uses one in her bathroom, I never notice it making it smell any better in there but it sure dun stink lol

Status: offline 		I've heard from a reliable source that the chemicals in many air fresheners are the same as they use in embalming fluid. They just mask odors by deadening the bad scent receptors in your nose.

Status: offline 		I would suggest getting your house picked up and cleaning the dust out... air fresheners give me allergies, headaches, etc. I am allergic to all perfume but the good stuff too... so I always make sure I clean well because of my allergies anyhow.. dust is bad for you and that smell is not going to leave until you thoroughly clean the place.
