I've had my hair all one length past my shoulders for about three years now. I have naturally curly hair when left to dry on its own and can straighten it when I want with a straightening iron. I'm bored and Shorey has given me permission to change it up a bit. I'm thinking of getting a blunt cut to just below my shoulders and to go with bangs. What do you think? Should I or will I regret them? My hair doesn't grow fast and I'm afraid if I don't like them I'll have a two year process of growing them back out. I haven't had bangs in years.

I wish I could help but I have my own hair dilemma. It's about 1/3 the way down my back (well....possibly a little longer) and it's driving me nuts. My hair has natural curl, but it's rather fine, so leaving it to dry on it's own makes it a limp lifeless mess. My boss actually had the audacity to tell me to cut it short. She can kiss my ass. I don't know what you look like, so even if I could give hair advice, it would be difficult to do so. Have you considered going to one of those salons that takes your photo and then gives you a digital haircut? If you're that nervous about it, that might be a way to go. I have read a lot about hair though, in trying to solve my own hair issues, and...it's quite possible that someone like yourself, with curly hair, might not do too well with a blunt cut, all depending. If it isn't thinned out properly, it might give you mushroom head. That wouldn't be attractive. I've had that. *LOL*

Gee, I guess I did offer a bit more help than I thought I could. Who knew? :D Anyhow, I'll be watching this post to get tips. Maybe one of the kinksters out there is a hair stylist. ;)

I know you would look hot in any hairstyle, but maybe you and Shorey can turn this into
a fun adventure and visit some wig shops, and try on a few looks just to be sure?
Don't forget to post pics too!

I grew out my bangs a very long time ago and have never gone back. Bangs require styling, taming cow licks or funny side curls if your hair isn't absolutely straight. They can be hidden when they are growing back out though, you just need some skill with soft drying hair styling products and some well placed pins or small hair clips.

I personally found bangs to be the most annoying things ever, but I admit on people who have the right hair style and will-power to ensure they stay looking good, they can be very nice.

Aileen.. I am far from being any kind of fashion advisor, but my hair not only has a cowlick, it is also quite wavy/curly when left alone to dry. even when using styling hardware (rare, but it HAS happened) and products, all it takes is a wee bit of humidity to make my hair happy to return to it's natural state... unless I use some kind of product that makes it either like concrete or I havent washed my hair in 15 years.

while, if you had naturally straight/only SLIGHTLY wavy hair, your face would support the style you are talking about nicely.. and kudos to you if you go with it! Just keep in mind how much effort it will take to keep it just so, and the grow-out time...

I like the idea of the digital haircut/wigs... (as long as you keep in mind the effort to maintain a style)

(ETA: these days, my styling is wash/towel dry/pull it into a ponytail or bun/ignore it (well, except for those annoying bits that escape the hair tie.. when they get too long to be left alone, but still too short for the hairtie, I use the itty bitty butterfly clips)

I went through the Bangs Dilemma and decided against it. Definitely, try on a WIG first to see what you think. Personally, I hate having my hair in my face, and decided it was a NO. Also, made my face look oddly round...

I had bangs forever... until I was past 20. Now I am glad I didn't do it. The blunt cut, yes, great idea!

I agree with others you will look hot and sexy no matter what you do with your hair. I don't do bangs because they annoy me... I don't like the feeling of things on my forehead... Although, occasionally I get this "urge" to try and do bangs again and reality sets in. The real reason I don't do bangs is because it requires regular hair cuts to keep it out of my eyes... I don't have time for that kind of maintenance.
Good luck, and I agree with the posting of pictures.
Kali

I do bangs more often than not because I have a high forehead and without bangs I just look ridiculous. I like light whispy bangs because I think they look cute and usually stay out of my eyes.

I would maybe try one of those computer programs where you can place a photo of your face around different hairstyles and see how you would look with bangs or as others suggested, try some different wigs.

Like you it takes me forever to get my hair to grow out again. Every single time I get my hair cut they always take way too much off. I've decided to just not get my hair cut for awhile so I can actually get it to grow. I'm even trying all different types of lotions and shampoos to get it to grow faster. UGH. It's taking way too damn long!

I hear ya on the bored dilemma. I'm so bored with my hair, which is one length down to my butt, but can't bring myself to do anything about it (not ready to let go of the length I waited so long for).

Remember a couple of things when trying on wigs or doing the digital thing. Likely your hair texture, thickness, curl, etc. are different than the wig or picture, so the style may not work with your hair. I have thick, course, wavy/curly hair and lived that nightmare in my teens too often.

If you have a salon/hairdresser that you regularly use and trust, ask them what they think is best for your type of hair. Hairstyle/cut disappointments tend to be because a person wants something that just isn't going to work for their hair. Part of what stylists learn is how to help their clients choose styles that are right for their hair and lifestyle.

While bangs can add a nice frame to your face, remember how much work (as others have suggested) they can be to keep them looking nice. You are an attractive woman, so I'm sure whatever you decide on will look lovely.

I hear ya on the ETA part. And btw, those little butterfly clips? Like these? They make nice little nipple torturing devices. *helpful look* :)

Sorry for the derail.

I prefer my own style of 'kinda bangs' with the layered mess I have on my head. No need for a lot of fuss because it is supposed to look kinda messy.

Aileen, I think it would look fab but I agree to try it somehow first.

Try something like this.

(that's just the first one I found when I googled...)

I am fortunate to have a stylist who instinctively knows what is going to look good on me. If you meet someone with a particularly attractive hairstyle, ask who cuts it for them and make an appointment. A good stylist will know what looks good with the shape of your face and your type of hair.

Having first hand experience with naturally curly hair, going from longer to shorter hair, AND the humidity of the Jersey shore, I'm going to recommend adding in the layers a little bit at a time and see what happens and how you like it before you really whack a lot of hair off. The weight of longer hair straightens out a LOT of the natural curl in my hair. Anytime I've cut off more than 2-3 inches, it corkscrews up like a mofo, it drives me nuts trying to style it straighter, and I end up growing it back out again.

This time of year, coming into winter with the lower humidity, is a better time for a new length than going into summer humidity, learned that the hard way, too.

Make sure the stylist is experienced, and that she understands the tightness of curl and texture of your hair before she starts whacking. ALWAYS go longer than you think you might want it. You can always cut more off later if you need to. With the cowlicks I have in the front, as well as the widow's peak, and the curliness, the proper length bangs for me will stretch down way past my nose when wet. It shortens way up when drying.

I need bangs for my face shape and to cover that deep crevice that lives right below the hairline but in all honesty, 99% of everyone I know that went from no bangs to bangs grows the bangs back out anyway. I'd go very long ones to start out with if I were you.

Well...I now have bangs. Shorey seems to like it as he's said that he likes my face. I doubt I'll post pics as it took a year to get his approval just for this avatar.
