Perry may well live to regret the "Ponzi scheme" nonsense. Pawlenty's endorsement of Romney is a blow to Perry as well.

Quit these thinly veiled promotions of your boyhood hero Herman Cain ... NOW.

You can opt out anytime you like.

Unless a con is willing to explain ,in detail, what he or she would do if they lost their money/home/health and didn`t have SS to fall back on,they are just blowing smoke and bullshiting everyone, including and especially themselves.

Sleeping on your friend`s couch, doesn`t count as an answer.lol

I would take those funds and add it to what I already invest and save for such emergencies. (At present I have enough put back to last in an emergency for probably a couple decades...if I had my lifetime of SS to add to that I could probably about retire now.)

Are you old enough to remember '08' and how many folks lost the savings/retirements/pensions?

The naive act gets old soon, ya know.

Raiikun -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 7:19:03 AM)

I lost in that too. Then recovered, and came out ahead in the long run.

Though I am amused you'd ask someone in his 30's if he remembers something 3 years ago.

Raiikun -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 7:23:17 AM)

But yeah, it's called being fiscally responsible. In my ideal world, SS would be the default option as a net for those who can't handle their own finances and savings responsibly, with the option to do it yourself if you can.

Owner59 -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 7:53:41 AM)

And for the folks who don`t "come out ahead"?

What do you propose we do with 70 year old broke people?

The street?

Your house?

An answer please.

Raiikun -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 7:54:26 AM)

Just did in the other thread.

Owner59 -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 7:57:19 AM)

Fail.

Raiikun -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 7:58:37 AM)

Elaborate?

Owner59 -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 8:04:27 AM)

What do we do with the folks who are broke/homeless/ill after SS is gone?

Wish them luck and hand them a pamphlet on investing?

Strawman, I never suggested SS be "gone."

You have a computer and have told us how savvy an investor you are. You have told us that you have enough in your stash to last you for a couple of decades and you are only 34. One would think that someone as smart as you could do a little research. There are many in the u.s. who are not part of the ss system...senators,congressmen/women and a particular ventura county ca. sheriff's deputy who no longer has a ss number.
So now it is time to see if you are as smart as you think you are

Is it your position that anyone who is not as smart as you is fiscally irresponsible?

Out of curiosity, exactly how much do you believe you would be entitled to receive if you opted out today and they cut you a check?

I'd do it for nothing.

tazzygirl -> RE: Perry OpEd On Social Security (9/13/2011 8:34:22 AM)

Thats not an answer.
