If you're going to abuse your position for personal gain, at least be honest about it...

Texas Ethics Commission records show he has accepted $29,500 from the Merck PAC during his entire tenure as governor, $22,000 of it prior to his 2007 order. In addition, Toomey, who served in the Texas House with Perry and later as his chief of staff, has contributed more than $48,000 to Texans for Rick Perry during his decade in office.

Furthermore, Texans for Public Justice reported Tuesday that Merck has contributed $377,500 to the Republican Governor’s Association PAC since 2006 – the year that Perry became heavily involved in the organization. (He has chaired it twice since then, resigning his most recent chairmanship in July to run for president.) The RGA is Perry’s largest contributor, at $4 million during his tenure as governor.

I find it funny Michele Bachmann is the one who brought this all out.

His God told him to run for President - since his God is going to make him President, Perry feels he doen't have to tell the truth.

Why bother telling the truth and not lying - when your God has already given you the job?

Because his target audience is to dumb to get that or to couldn`t care less?

This has been a brusing primary so far and it`s only just starting.

We haven`t even gotten to Nov. yet and there`s blood on the floor.

The SS fight (within the party) is going to be big and messy.

Why did he lie? Because he's running for office. Show me a politician who doesn't lie.

Since I favor another candidate, It would be nice if all that were true.  We have had enough Texas governors as president.

Ahh,how moderate of you....[;)]

Well,if one lies about his dick habits, that`s one thing.

If one lies us into a war and thousands of men and women die as a result, that`s another thing.

All lies may be the same but quantity and quality make some lies worse.Much worse.

Is that any reason to tolerate it?

Arpig -> RE: Why did Rick Perry lie on national TV? (9/14/2011 11:39:59 AM)

You're right, all lies are not the same, some are indeed much worse than others...think WMDs...but he just asked why he lied, so I told him.

Personally I think it's rather futile to try point out the flaws of the current batch of Republican contenders, because I don't think it matters which one gets the nomination. Unless the economy completely tanks in the next year I don't see any of them standing a chance of being elected if they are running against Obama.

I didn't speak to tolerating it or not. He asked why, and I told him. But to address your question directly, you tolerate it from all the others, so why not Perry?

The lack of a good choice bothers me. :(
And I honestly have no solution or idea for it. I just like to stay aware and try to keep my mindset away from accepting a lesser evil as being ok.

Lies when they are found out are lies and therefore those who lie become liars, how can one trust a known liar ?

As to big lies and small lies should there be a difference, well to answer, if someone lied small, would you then trust what they say on bigger matters ?

But as to Arpig's response, I have to agree, politicians might be honest when they are born, but learn to lie when they run for office and become even more adept at the art the higher they go up the ladder of power, again I also ask, show me a politician who does not lie.

If a person wants power over others and all the trappings that comes with it, in a civilised society, the ability to lie with impunity it seems, is a requisite, even a skill

And that is why I don't trust politicians, they have been shown to be liars, and if that is a minority, well, one bad apple and all that, but if they want to be trusted, then it is up to them to clean up their act.

But again, one a person has been proven to be a liar, how can then they be trusted ever again ?

Their own? Bah! I can't be a leftist, I don't automatically reject everything one of you righties says out of hand simply on the basis of you being on the right.

Besides, from where I stand most of them are way to the right, don't you know Comrade Sanity
