So I finally made it for a furnace filter.  YES.  Damp here- heat on.

Fuck all!

My windows are just now finally open.

No way is my furnace coming on! Had the AC running this last weekend because it got so hot in the house. The sun is out, it is 51 degrees, only got down just below 40 last night. Perfect sleeping weather. Perfect being outside weather. If you are cold, get some sweats on. But no way is the furnace going on.

Hell, I had to use heat all summer.  This was the coldest, wettest summer I have ever experienced.

The other day the neighbor had the AC on -  first floor- heat on upstairs.    lol.  She forgot to turn it off.  Which is something I would do too.

ricken -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 10:35:36 AM)

I'll probably turn the heat on next week, it's still warm enough out to keep the windows open. I hate that "just turned on" smell the furnace has after it sits all summer.
Usually wait till it's pretty cold before it's on to heat the house. I got a couple of more weeks before making sure everything is closed & sealed before the heats really on.

Lockit -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 10:36:45 AM)

I woke up cold. Turned off my fan. Got up and running around and thought... well, time for the heater. I turned it on and got nothing. Its going to be a cold, hard winter!

So, my answer is.. no...[:(]

pahunkboy -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 10:38:09 AM)

I will have the heat on today and tomorrow.  As needed.... I doubt the next week will be needed-  just wanted the chill gone. I used a space heater- at times via this rain- but for what that cost I can do the whole house- not just a cubic foot.

soul2share -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 10:51:53 AM)

I can't wait to be able to open the windows here.....probably not for another month, tho.  I barely use the furnace here......give me the fresh cool air everytime.  Everyone else will be bundled up and have the heat on, and I'm hanging out an open window!  If the kittehs get cold, they crawl in the bed under the comforter.  I can count one 1 hand the number of times I used the heat here last winter.

Hillwilliam -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 11:03:35 AM)

Still running AC in the office a few hours a day. Heat won't be for almost a month yet.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 11:13:45 AM)

Heat? HELL no!! Maybe next week... [>:]

Marc2b -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 11:16:13 AM)

No... but when I woke up just this morning I did breifly consider it for the first time, but I just closed the window instead.

SoulAlloy -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 3:52:20 PM)

yep one morning last week - this house has always been cool, i am not looking forward to wintry weather again

BurntKitty -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 4:47:02 PM)

I had to use the heat. I opened the window to let the 90+ degrees in. My son had cranked the a/c down to 70 and I swear I saw frost on the inside of the windows.

LadyPact -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 5:07:05 PM)

Our temperatures have been running high 50's/low 60's during the day and nights have been low 40's with a few dipping into high 30's.  As I said on another thread, the leaves have already turned here, so the nights really are beginning to get cold.  I suspect that My windows open during the afternoon days are numbered.

Lucylastic -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 5:11:03 PM)

nope I like the chill, looking forward to fall, BIG time... I still have AC units in, its been so damn humid. I most certainly couldnt live in the south, theheat would drive me wacky..ok even more so.
Im loving the coooler mornings and evenings, I wouldnt think heating will go on till last couple of weeks in oct

GreedyTop -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 5:15:22 PM)

I turned it on by accident.. I have window units, and since the nights have been down in the 60s, I've been using fan mode only at night. When I am sleeping, (since it's daytime and still hitting the 90s) I run the a/c... but one day I didnt hit the MODE buttons enough.. and ended up with the heat running.

it seems odd to me that with the temp set the same that heat and a/c ARE different...

quietcuriosity -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 5:34:20 PM)

The heat has been running some nights for the past couple weeks. It drops down to 50 and that's just too cold. Especially with pets in the house.

soul2share -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 8:21:07 PM)

QC, my cats just crawl under the comforter!  When it's cool and I can't find them, I go looking for lumps on the bed.

When I first moved to FL, it was September and still 90 degrees.  I was living in a suite hotel and wasn't paying the electric bill, so I ran the a/c ALL the time.....even in the winter!  Growing up, our house was old with wooden windows.  My mom put plastic on them to try to save some of hte heat, but winter in Upstate NY was frigid.  There were mornings we'd wake up with frost inside the windows.  We also didn't have forced air heat to the second floor, just open grates, which were eventually covered by carpet.  I'd sleep with a chenille spread and a sheet, in little baby doll pj's and was perfectly comfy.  My sister had footie jammies, a sheet, a blanket, her electric blanket, another blanket, MY electric blanket and the spread, and she'd still be cold!  I still sleep best in a cold, not cool, but COLD room!

NuevaVida -> RE: have you used the heat yet this fall? (9/15/2011 8:36:45 PM)

No, still running the AC now and then. It's in the 80's here.
