I agree it's bullshit. I know rules are there for a reason but it seems they should break them this time. *sheesh*

Yeah- I dont think this was an irresponsible cat owner.   Granted they exist.

I guess I dont understand who that organization is and how they can just steal his cat from him.  It is not like he asked them to adopt THEIR cats.   He simply wanted to get vet care.

I'm assuming it's like the ASPCA. So they kind of have to take the cat if they take it in, and then they give it vet care. Apparently, sometimes people who can't afford the vet care take it in and then try to "adopt" it after it's better. [8|]
They don't think these people did that, but they're standing by their policy to not ever adopt out to people who bring in animals from their own area. (I didn't word that correctly, but if you read the article you'll get my meaning)

Which makes no sense in this case since Sherman will be paying. Honestly with all the stray cats out there and overcrowding I would think they would be thrilled to have one less cat to care for. The most bizarre part of the article is this:

Also, if he adopted the cat and the other owner lived two streets down the old owner might take it back.

Wouldn't that be a GOOD thing?

It would unless you had just spent $500 to pay for surgery plus another couple hundred as the adoption fees.
If that happens, they'd be demanding their money back.

In my area-  most would consider the owner to be the one who paid the vet bill.     I personally know a gal who gained a cat this way.   It was loose- the owner never took it to a vet even tho it needed a vet-  she took it- it then basically was hers.     Some sort of bad skin condition...

Why didn't he just fucking say it was his cat ?

T^T

From the story, it seems they found it and turned it in, then perhaps had second thoughts and offered to adopt it (and pay all the vet fees) but by then it was "in the system". [:o][:(]

Some places require a license to own a cat...  so maybe if he did- but had no license he could be fined.
