Well there's all those messages I get in my inbox from people saying things like "I enjoy you're posts" or "you really got that lunatic " " mad this time".
When I am serious it's easy enough to tell. Unless the reader is like reason impaired or something. But just make sure the special needs issue is addressed... If I name a nearly universally known fictional work that's been covered in both print and film as the core theme of a post. It's a fair bet it's humor. Even if it is humor that will upset the right-wingnuts in the crowd.
