ricken -> RE: When does protesting vs. abortion go too far? (9/21/2011 12:24:06 PM)

As far as I'm concerned this is school hours, there are small kids walking in and out....
"...A small group of protesters stood outside Robert Frost Middle School in Rockville on Thursday, holding signs and a banner, during back-to-school night,... "
AGAIN....While it may be legal, it's still an asshole thing to do to push an idea, no matter what side your on, on small kids.
I veiw this as off limits, let the kids alone.
There are PLENTY of better places and probably ways to get your point across.

Since I brought up the subject of "in front of my home" I guess it's fair game, however thats not the real issue. IF this was in front of my home, I guess I would be dealing with the courts after I did my thing....

The OP question....
Suppose she was not a 6th grader, but a 1st grader (age 6) or a kindergarten student (age 5) - should she be a legitimate target for anti-abortion protestors?

I will stand by my answer NO, leave the kids out of it.

I want to responde to Moonhead & Lucylastic, because they posted after me. As I stated I don't believe in abortion, this is my opinion shaped by events in my life that I won't go into detail here, however, while I don't think women should have them, as a form of birth control, I do believe they need to be kept legal and available for women that choose to have them. I'm sure I'm not the only person with those mixed feelings...
No, I can't get pregnant.

I wasn't having a go, ricken, just pointing out that there seems to be a bit of a gender imbalance in the sides taken in this discussion.
(And, for whatever it's worth, I'm ambivalent about abortion as a solution to the problem myself. If somebody can suggest a better alternative than somebody raising a kid they'll spend the rest of their life resenting on foodstamps, then I'd be all for that.)

Ricken while I disagree with your abortion sentiments, I wasnt having a go at you..
you are entittled to your opinion... Ive no argument with that.
yur opinion however stops when it interferes with what I decide to do or not do with my body.
PS I havent had an abortion either.
My pregnancies DID form my opinion and my feelings

Thanks for reply....

And I do agree I DON'T have a right to tell you what to do with your body.
But I believe I  have a right to my opinion.
I have a right to state my opinion, such as in these forums

But do I have a right to jam my opinion down throat of some kid at a school function ?

Well according to the "all knowing whats best for you people" court system I do.

It might be legal but it's still an asshole thing to do. (protesting at a school)

we have no disagreement then:) well minior ones but im certainly not disagreeing with you regarding the "protest"
A thought occured to me, I wonder if these protesters are also against having sex ed taught in schools?
The walking about showing pics of mangled feti isnt against their wishes for their own kids? That to me is more offensive than telling kids about homosexuality, abstinence and STDs

Most likely.
There might be pro lifers linking arms outside the cemetary who are keen to have kids told how not to get pregnant, but I doubt those are the ones picketing family planning clinics, somehow...

ricken -> RE: When does protesting vs. abortion go too far? (9/21/2011 1:40:05 PM)

In regard to sex ed, from what I understand it's almost backward from when I was a kid....

about 1970-72 (6th to 8th grade) we had sex ed classes, they where very factual.
Pretty much all the body functions, and IF you have sex, you CAN get pregnant. In detail about eggs and time of month and all that female stuff. In detail about sperm and how many and all that guy stuff. Stuff that at our age was "icky"
We also discussed diseases, at the time not as deadly/scary as now but still, pretty much, you can pass STD's if you have unprotected sex...

This is why I never understood how young kids get pregnant, well I should say how SO MANY young girls get pregnant.
I would think that many anti abortion protesters hide under "it's against god" or some nonsuch, that they are also the ones against birth control and education....

Very sad

As far as teaching young kids about homosexuality and sexual choices, I don't know....

Lucylastic -> RE: When does protesting vs. abortion go too far? (9/21/2011 1:58:00 PM)

I was seven... my best friend helen asked how the "seed" got into the woman with a floppy penis...the teacher laughed at floppy, then said that it didnt stay soft..the boys laughed like little girls. the teacher then split the class up.
I already knew the birds n the bees but the sex ed was there and useful!
that was 1969

How do they get pregnant?

Many have no access to BC. Many still believe you cant get pregnant the first time. Many believe if you douche immediately afterwards, you are fine. Then you have those who are on BC and it fails them.

Lucylastic -> RE: When does protesting vs. abortion go too far? (9/21/2011 2:41:33 PM)

Many women still believe that if you jump up and down it will stop you getting pregnant, many women believe you cant get pregnant while breast feeding. There are a million and one misunderstood facts even 40 years on from me getting the information I had.
WHY???
and lots of men are even dumber *about stopping pregnancy* and periods let alone stds
