A cure for cancer would be nice. A cure for a virus is even harder...

However... in the news of science and health...

Research into developing a widely available, functional cure for HIV/AIDS is moving at breakneck speed, prompted by the case of a former Seattle man who became the first person ever cured of the virus, and carried out, in part, by Seattle-area researchers.
"I would be incredibly disappointed if we didn't have a functional cure for AIDS in the next decade," says Jeffrey Laurence, a Cornell University researcher and a consultant for The American Foundation for AIDS Research.

A dozen doctors from around the nation, including three from Seattle, met last week in Philadelphia to discuss their research.

The potential is amazing!

Yeah the potential is incredible but I think it's more than 10 years away given that it still hasn't been formulated. Add on all the research that has to be done and that's a whole lotta years. still it's something concrete to aim for.

With all the challenges that retrovirus has given us (I mean when we started out we BARELY knew they existed)... When it's back is finally broken, it will have accounted for as much advancement in gaining understanding of epidemiology and the immune system, that it will have had an effect on science sort of like the space program did in the sixties.
