Status: offline 		Can you recycle empty pill bottles, disposable razors, arisol cans, such as lysole spray cans,  dish washing sponges, tooth brushes, Brillo pads, and shampoo and conditioner bottles?

Status: offline 		My initial reaction is, for the most part, no. But different communities have different rules about what they will or won't accept for recycling. You're better off contacting recyclers in your area than asking about it here. What may be acceptable in one location, may not be in another.

Depends on what your area collects. They usually have a list of what you can and cant. They may even have a website with the list.

I would think the shampoo and conditioner bottles would be since they are plastic and most areas collect plastic. Also check on the item. Sometimes there's something written saying if it's recyclable or degradable.

Status: offline 		For all the years that all I drank was beer, milk and coffee I never had this problem. Now that I don't drink milk or coffee anymore I had to find something other than beer. So it's this selzer water, I found a brand with nothing objectionable in it and I drink it quiite a bit. So I have an abundance of these plastic bottles.

Seems to me that they should be able to shred these things and mix it in with the tar on the roads or some shit. We really do have to do something with all this plastic.

Actually soft drinks should go back to having a deposit on the bottles. Milk too should be in glass, except that I think it's better to keep it out of the light. Glass can be recycled but it should be sorted by color. Of course they have an aversion to glass now because it's too easy to make a molotov cocktail. However perhaps they can be persuaded if I make something more dangerous out of a plastic container. Those soda bottles will hold a hell of alot of pressure. I'll get on it when I get done with the million other things I am supposed to do.

Plastic is by far the biggest recycling problem in this country at least. If you think about the enormous amount of plastics used in e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g it's clear that the nuclear waste problem is a piece of cake in comparison.

Status: offline 		The razors I doubt, unless you want to snap off the plastic...me, I trash them.  But pretty much all plastic bottles are recyclable these days.  I do toss my aerosol cans in there when I do have any.  All of my cans go in there too....I just rinse them out because I have a container inside that I take to the curb, and I don't need ants.

Your best bet is to check your city's website.  If the city recycles, it will have what's good and what's bad.  If it's a private company, then check their website, it'll have a list too.  Again, Google is your friend.

Status: offline 		Termy we take our water bottles and soda cans to the recycler for money. It's not always a lot but it was 20-30 dollars we didn't have before.

Status: offline 		Maybe I'll find one around here that'll take the bottles. I'll bringem a truckload for enough for a 12 pack easily.

I was trying to think of something better to do with them. That plastic is damn tough. I mean, maybe not even a weapon, something still useful though. The one brand looked like the bottles could easily be glued together into a pipe. But the cheaper brand now doesn't have the same design, I would need a suaging tool, and that would be a big one. I would have to make it.

But then what to do with the pipe ?

Plastic milk type bottles are even more useless. I have no idea what to do with them.

All I know is we better find something to do with all this plastic junk before we don't have any room left at all in the landfills.

Status: offline 		Termy, I lived in Oregon where the cans & bottles do have a deposit on them. But in order to take them back for the deposits, you have to take them to the store where they were sold. One place won't take another place's bottles. Then you stand in line to put the bottles & cans into a machine that may or may not accept them. It stinks in there & the floor's filthy & sticky & it smells like old sour beer mixed with dirt.

When I tried to take a bunch back one time, I discovered how unpleasant it was all for $3.00 or so & I walked all the rest of them over to a guy in the parking lot, asked him if he wanted them & gave them all away. After that, I would set them out front & let the scavengers take them in the night. There were people who drove around the city at night & picked up the returnables & made their living that way. So I felt like I was helping someone else out.

Had I been able to return all of them to the same place, I'd have done it. But they make you run all over the place. Plus there is a cap on how many you can unload at each place.

In the old days, one would just take them to a person who would count them & give you your money. In the 80's I collected enough to buy the materials for a really good custom-made futon bed frame & the custom-made futon to go on it, so several hundred dollars. And it didn't take me that long to do it & it wasn't annoying to return them.

Status: offline 		Wow, Linnea, that is a pain!  Back home, NY has the nickel deposit on all bottles and cans, but you don't have to take them back to where you got them from.  The grocery stores all have those big crusher machines, cans and bottles in, receipt out.  But many folks give their deposit stuff to various places, schools, day care places...at home, our Humane Society gets all our familiy's stuff.  It's surprising how quickly those nickels can add up! 

Here in J'ville, the city does the recycling...blue bins and all.  Since I've started putting mine out, my trash is almost non-existent.  I really wish I had a trash disposal, then I'd have nothing.  I hate that I throw away trash bags that are 1/8 full, but since I have to toss any wet food/leftovers in it, the smell gets pretty rank.

Status: offline 		S2S, Bo has one of those giant blue bins as well.  If he would sort the mess, the bin would be overflowing.

There is this guy who does go through the bins, getting the cans out for recycling.  Austin states that anything that goes into the bins belongs to the city, but I don't see the city going to police up the bins.  That would be a waste of funds.

Top, call your local constable.  Usually they know the number to the recycling centers.

Status: offline 		My community has a recycling classification. Additionally, if you look at the bottom of the items or packaging you should see a triangle sometimes with a number (sometimes no number). If it has the triangle on the bottom then it is definitely recyclable. Typically razors are not and sometimes they require that they go into a sharp's container.

In MI we get money for returning the pop cans, bottles, and beer cans and bottles. In OK they didn't. However, in OK they usually had recycling stations set up just about every where with bins clearly marked as to what could and couldn't be recycled. Now where I live recycling comes one every two weeks. There are still rules like papers have to be separated from plastic and metal.
