At&t gave nearly $1 million to House Republicans to urge Obama to allow At&t to buy T-Mobile

There is nothing unethical going on here. America is capitalist and in a capitalist country anything can be bought or sold. Besides Corporations are people and the House Republicans are doing their job by representing the people.

Stupid on AT&T's part... should have just given it directly to Obama in exchange for favors -- like Solyndra did.

Whats this about...the same 3 month old story that talks about all the donations to lawmakers that support the merger, but doesnt bother to mention the donations made to those that dont? When you contribute to everybody, some are bound to agree with you!

AT&T doesn't have a vote. AT&T can't be put in prison. AT&T can't be executed for murdering someone.

Why do they have a voice again?

Exactly, the democrats were un-willing to sign the letter to support the merger while the 100 republicans did. It was just coincidence.

If the republicans were smart, they would have privatized/outsourced a good chunk of phone call eavesdropping under the patriot act away from the Homeland Security bureaucracy and force AT&T to do the dirty work in exchange for their votes.

Think of the Microsoft Anti-trust case and how that was quickly 'resolved'....  At some point, the light bulb came on over how near-monopolies can be beneficial for law and order purposes.
