NakisisaX -> RE: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - No Homos in Iran (9/23/2011 4:30:35 AM)

He came to Michigan and said the same things, now my question to you all who have called him names is, what did he say that was so wrong?

Moonhead -> RE: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - No Homos in Iran (9/23/2011 4:46:01 AM)

Pretty much everything he came out with, really.

Everything between the "Hello Ladies and Gentlemen" bit at the beginning and the "thank you for inviting me" bit at the end of his speech.

I hope I haven't missed anything.

The bigger question is why is Columbia inviting this dickhead to speak? .

He was invited to speak at a world leaders forum...He is the president of iran. Which is why he was invited to speak and you were not.

looked like 3/4 of the General Assembly walked out on his speech today

Here's a pic: http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/meast/09/22/un.ahmadinejad/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Finland, Mauritinia, Mauritius, Guyana, Haiti, and Libya are some of the 1/4 that did not walk out.  Japan is the only country remaining in the pic that has any weight at the UN.

kalikshama -> RE: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - No Homos in Iran (9/23/2011 9:58:10 AM)

Like in the US, there is more tolerance for lesbians than gay men. However, "tolerance" is relative:

"Homosexuality is defined both for men and women in law. There is a section devoted to homosexuality," Shirin Ebadi, the Nobel peace prize-winning human rights lawyer, said. "There is one part for homosexuality in men, which is called lavat [sodomy], which is punishable by death. There is another for women, which is called mosahegheh. If the crime is committed up to three times, the penalty is 100 lashes. On the fourth, it is execution."

Thompson is it your contention that all world leaders,no matter their policies,no matter the policies of their state ...somehow ,perhaps simply by dint of being leaders, imbued with legitimacy?

The even bigger question is why we are discussing something that happened four yours ago.

Have current events become too boring?

By the way boys and girls, if you go online you will find all kinds of different translations of what he said.

I'm not defending him, but I'm also not going to accept nonsense some idiot posted on YouTube as fact.

Well hell, I was sweating over the reason I didn't get an invitation to speak. Now I know.

Thank you thompson for the insight.

Well, for anyone who is interested this is the full transcript of his speech and nowhere does he say what is being claimed.

Aneirin -> RE: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - No Homos in Iran (9/23/2011 11:31:55 AM)

A saying from the past, not often heard these days, but repeated to me by one who lived their entire life in Arabic speaking countries;

Women are for babies, men are for pleasure

(Edited to add, one such search on the saying ;http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080925061610AAxuYVj )

Now searching this saying or variations of it, it appears it originated in the Middle East, so homosexuality is just as natural there as it is here, but I suspect what has happened has changed that ideal and that because of colonialism

Yeah, the fucking Brits and their Victorian mentalities; prim and proper on the surface, but sleazy underneath, fuck, I hate what my country has done to the world !

Now, what is happening, is the Middle East is doing the very same thing the west did, it is hiding behind religion, but people being people will sin, they always have and always will, because to remain healthy in mind one has to be true to themselves before any man made construct is considered and we all know sexual energy is sometimes such a driving force, no law can control.

Hey, just look at the paedophile priests for conformation of that, and the early BDSMers the so called holy inquisition.

So, what Mr Dinner Jacket is saying is there are no homo's in Iran because he is scared of the western thought, what others might think of him if it was known that there are homosexuals under his control. Or it could be he is trying to say Iran is better than the west because they have no homos, which we all know is bollocks, to which he knows also and so he makes extra effort to weed them out

Now for those that have not lived in an Arabic speaking country, the sight of two men walking hand in hand does not mean they are homosexual, although it is known to the Arabs that is what the west immediately think and they have had a history of being called effeminate or homosexual by the western critics of their culture. In their culture there is nothing wrong with holding hands with a like gender, as all it shows is affection, not gayness.

So in summary, perhaps what we are hearing from the likes of Ahmadinejad, is something we in the west caused with our attempts to paint Araby as something less than ourselves.

Rule he also said there are no homosexuals in Iran according to the translation you posted a link to:

quote:

AHMADINEJAD (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): In Iran, we don't have homosexuals, like in your country.

(LAUGHTER)

We don't have that in our country.

(AUDIENCE BOOING)

AHMADINEJAD (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): In Iran, we do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who's told you that we have it.

I disagree. Unlike in the west, it is "unnatural" homosexuality. And this unnatural homosexuality goes back to Biblical times: Sodom and Gomorrah. According to my hypothesis it is one of the consequences of circumcision. (Such unnatural homosexuality appears to also have been predominant in Greek antiquity until such a time as when the God of the Jews was murdered, and may have persisted a bit longer in Roman antiquity.)

They are not. Homosexuals are a major threat to their populations. That is why their religion opposes their homosexuals. Whereas Christian homosexuals, also a threat to our populations, must be valued because they confer immense benefits on our populations.

Oh yes, according to the book written by men, often cloistered men who had their own problems to deal with, but yes, the origin of the word used to describe ass fucking, although not all homosexuals engage in that act. But despite what rule books exist, you have to agree, one cannot go against human nature ?

They pose a major threat to their populations, where they did not in the past when we understand world population was smaller due to diseases we have cured and the extension of life span due to the former and a better standard of living in many respects, also the fact that there tends not to be roaming hordes of miscreants riding around raping and pillaging as was the norm in history, if there is, we are not hearing about it.

I disagree, I believe he is but another bigot mouthing the words to look tough and persecuting those with no power or influence but who knows what goes on behind his closed doors, as the areas that tend to practice that which the saying; women are for babies and men are for pleasure describes in this age is notably Afghanistan, and what are the Afghanis if they are not of predominantly Persian ancestry ?

Open Letter To All Republicans:

Until your "leadership" denounces and expels the assholes who Boo'd a US Soldier -- defending your freedom and liberty -- just because he's gay, you're admitting that bigotry is a core ideal of your party.

After years of wrapping yourselves in the flag and pretending to love America, now we all now know how you really feel. Your narrow-minded stupidity is more important than those giving their lives for you.

YOU own this one completely, douchebags. And us Real Americans ain't gonna forget it...
