Three that need to be out! And the local GOP is demanding one of them, Gordon, leave, even to the point of expelling him.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Military service records for a Rhode Island lawmaker who has blamed a string of legal troubles on combat stress he suffered in the 1991 Gulf War indicate he never served in the Middle East.

State Rep. Daniel Gordon's Marine Corps records, obtained by The Associated Press, list him as an aircraft technician who served from 1987 to 1991 in the U.S. and Japan. Gordon has said his leg was injured by shrapnel outside Baghdad.

Gordon's records also list no Purple Heart award for his injury.

The Portsmouth Republican is fighting calls for his resignation following his arrest on charges stemming from a 2008 police chase in Massachusetts. The arrest exposed past legal problems, including a four-month sentence in 1999 for assault, and a long list of traffic offenses in Massachusetts.

Gordon has said his problems sprang from alcohol abuse relating to post-traumatic stress from his service. He did not return calls seeking comment Friday.

Records obtained from the Marine Corps show Gordon joined the Marines on June 4, 1987, and served at bases in South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington and California, and spent six months with an aviation unit at a Marine Corps air station in Japan.

The records show no deployments to the Middle East. Maj. Shawn Haney, a public affairs officer with the Marines, said Gordon's file would indicate any time spent in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Iraq during the Gulf War.

Gordon told reporters this week that his right leg was struck by shrapnel "eight miles south of Baghdad" in 1991. He declined to offer details of his injury or the combat he said he saw in the Gulf War, or to say whether he had a Purple Heart.

"I can assure you, I was there," he said Wednesday.

Purple Heart awards are given to service members injured caused by "enemy action or in action against the enemy," according to guidelines listed on the Department of Defense's website.

Gordon is one of three Rhode Island lawmakers who have been arrested this year.
Democratic Rep. Leo Medina, of Providence, was arrested earlier this month for allegedly pocketing proceeds from a life insurance policy on a friend's dead daughter. Medina maintains his innocence.

Last spring, Republican Rep. Robert Watson, of East Greenwich, was charged with drug possession and DUI in Connecticut. Watson has denied allegations by police that he had consumed cocaine and said he possessed marijuana to treat pancreatitis but hadn't smoked that day.

Its great that the local GOP is policing their own... and thats not snark.

Please allow me to offer local intelligence straight out of Portsmouth, R.I. where I was born and raised

Having gone to school with the other present and past congressmen from the county I lobbed a call to one of them who said "Skip, this guy is just the tip of the iceberg of shit we've gotten since the Tea Party has come to town. We even have what we call 'sheep dip tea party members' which are the guys who ruin democrat but haunt the tea party clambakes and rallies. If it didn't require a constitutional convention, I'd have a bill in to run a CIS Check as a qualification for candidacy for any elected office in the state".

Go Tea Party!

Based on the one in Providence that got busted in the life insurance scam, I'd say the term should be "Repeat Offender"

Rhode Island is the single most corrupt state in the entire Union, and with the way Democrats and Republicans in the state keep changing parties like the swirling winds off of Point Judith, it is almost impossible to tell who is who.

Yeah, whatever... The problem is actually republicans won't stay in their fucking party.
But there's no comparison between RI and say places like Louisiana for instance. When I lived there we all just wished we could nuke providence.

Except the simple facts are otherwise.

19% of Rhode Island voters are Democrats.

11% are Republican

AND

63% are Independents.

But electivally... Rhode Island is also (in addition to being the most corrupt) the single biggest Democrat State in the Union. After the last three election, the State Senate/House break down has been S-33/5 H-60/13 ('07) S-33/4 H-69/6 ('09) and S-29/8 H-65/10 ALL in favor of the Democrats.

I suppose in the new and ruined Ocean State, that's true. Unfortunately the decent people in the state got priced out of the state by scumbags who just made the cost of living prohibitive, most of the decent folk without family money moved away... What you cite is an empty hulk of what it used to be... You know so much about Rhode Island ... name names.. I know who the prominent ones have been, but those guys are all doing ;'conservative' talk shows or out of prison and trying to stay alive (getting real old) while desperately tring to breath new life into the republican party.
But I'd love to hear what you have for REAL instances of corruption. Little hint for ya... the ones that got hard time were ALL republicans

OK... if it makes you feel better about it, Rhode Island is THE nation's hot bed of Conservative Republican thought and the reddest of red states!

Don't let a 6 to 1, sometimes 8-1 elective Democrat Rule fool you either because they are all really John Birch/Tea Party types pretending to be Democrats., even the life long Democrats who switched parties because they couldn't win primary elections and ran as Republicans... that just shows you how clever the Bircher/Tea Party types are.

Oh and the fifth and sixth generation, Irish, Italian and Portuguese Rhode Islanders... don't let them fool you either, they are all gun owners from Idaho and Wyoming and really just moved there about 6 years ago for the strip pizza and coffee milk.

There.... happier now?

Yeah, totally happy... proves you don't know Rhode Island from any other place you can look up on a red state 'facts' site.
You should try a vacation there sometime ... by law you can do whatever a prostitute will take money for so long as it's behind closed doors. That ought to appeal to a nice guy like you.

No he wasn't.

There was no fighting that close to Baghdad, by US forces.  We didn't even get to An Nasiriyah or As Samawah in the south (150-200 miles away).

Frigging liar.

Hang 'em, and cut off his balls.

Firm

I'm eating lunch at Cap'n Jacks right now having chowda (not that a MA-hole would know real chowda) if you wanna debate this further... or.... around 5:30 this afternoon, I'll be hitting Charlie O's. Both places tend to be filled with nice mix of workin/middle class and rich people who have jobs, drink beer and are Republicans pretending to be Democrats...so you should have a really good time.

It's hard to tell the difference between the republicans and democrats anyway. The only real difference between Romney and Obama is the spelling of their names.

Reallllly... Capn'Jack's huh? Charlie O's, IN GANSETT? You're kidding right... you must be trying to blend in with the tourists ....Why not skip the whole seafood theme and go hit Olive Garden? Jesus ... you're like a mile from Auint Carries and you're having chowder in Cap'n'jack's ( they're franchised last I heard) and bragging about it
...  BFD regardless What have they got A bucket deal? We always MADE our own Chowder out of little necks from the sakonnet and if we went out for anything the local waters had top offer it would be to Flo's in Island Park, or down into Newport to hit The Mooring, Sallas'. Chrisy's (Cagne's favorite restaurant), or the Boathouse Pub for their awesome specials..
Charlie o's Shit back when we even bothered with Narragansett, it was only to run down to SK to hit bands like Duke Robillard at the Ocean Mist... O bet if you went up to the bar and started asking around about The guy who used to hook up everybody's Dead shows, you'd find half a dozen people who actually know me.
You're getting better with those web searches though semi-commendable

Completely off-topic, but in response to this current hijack...

Firm and I just got back today from a business trip that started in Maine and ended in Boston.  We tried the clam chowder at numerous locales along the way.  (To be honest, I'm a bit clam-chowdered out.  )  Our vote for best chowder goes to 95 Ocean at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport.

Granted, there are just so many restaurants you can hit in one week.

Ya picked probably the one place I never ate in Kennebunkport... but I've heard the food is great there. My trips up to the town have basically to Arundel Point beach when the stripers a re really running hard. And I took my old girlfriend Leigh to the scenic outlook overlooking Walker's Point and fucked her silly, till my brother's colleagues drove up the hill and asked us to leave.
I will tell you what though... next time you two head north PM me with a rough agenda and I'll recommend some great places to stop for food and entertainment... And I can pretty much nail it from Sourthern RI on up to Mid-coastal Maine.
