slut4prodomme -> great read on the mentally ill climate change deniers (9/24/2011 9:25:16 PM)

As if anyone needs more proof that the entire republican party is becoming a threat, not just to this country but the planet, here is a nice read on the politics of Global warming....which, of course, anyone with 1/2 a brain can see is happening, oh, that's right, you need at least 1/2 a BRAIN, sorry tea baggers that leaves you folks out!

No, because its in Huffington Post is a reason to know that nothing you post will ever be worthwhile.

Making certain part of science political is no good. There are many examples from the history. Fully ignorant politicians, journalists and other" activists" (generally they have no idea what it is about), or partly ignorant (e.g. Albert Gore) are leading the debate.

"As if anyone needs more proof that the entire republican party is becoming a threat,"

Well at least that part was sane. Now on to the issues. First of all it's not wise to make accusations of mental imbalance to people around here, i.e. in the US and on this website. To do this because of differing beliefs about scientific issues is at best counterproductive to any argument you could ever hope to make. When even scientists do not agree, the accusation of being imbalanced is not only unwarranted, but actually childish. Some of us are trying to be better than that. What's more thinking that it is a partisan issue is less than completely enlightened as viewpoints go. All politicians lie.

Now, I have already explained in another post about the fact that due to astronomical conditions, the Earh has been on a warming trend which is about to reverse. This is because the Earth is at it's perihelion in orbit around the sun in January right now. This affects the overall climate in this way because at the moment there is more land mass in the northern hemisphere. A simplified illustration  :

This is due to what's called the Milankovitch cycle. If you look it up on wiki and then realize that there is more land in the north and land absorbs heat differently than water, you can see that there is a natural cycle at work here, and it is very possible that the doings of mankind have had a minimal or negligible effect.

However before rendering a real judgement I must find this one piece of information, which has proven to be elusive, but I may find a way to "backfigure" it. To accurately judge whether mankind is the cause of global warming we need a figure on just how many BTUs we produce in our quest for whatever it may be, versus what is absorbed from the sun, in the same units.

I've not been able to find such a figure but to backfigure it I think if one were to look at the total of all fossil fuels used, all nuclear enrgy produced and whatever other burning going on in the world, we might be onto something. The figure for the sun's energy is easily found, but to total up what mankind adds is the problem. A big problem as well.

What you have to understand here though is that if you deem denial to be insanity, there are a hell of alot of people out here who believe that when we have this unproven theory, AND IT IS UNPROVEN, that it would be more insane to cripple the industries that we need to survive. And even further that to kill ourselves to save ourselves is not very sane. Try farming without deisel fuel these days. Or go green and triple the cost of food.

So, since I am unconvinced that we need to go back to herding goats, I am insane ? And no I am not a republican nor a democrat. And I think we should make both monkeys into soilant green, Obama and GW Bush. In fact the whole lot of them. Andrew Jackson and since, not one President worth a shit.

It's not exclusively a republican problem. What's more, half the problem is the people.

T^T

Aneirin -> RE: great read on the mentally ill climate change deniers (9/25/2011 3:53:20 AM)

The whole global change issue, be that warming cooling or whatever is going on, if it is going on is a business, money is being made, so it suits those that are making the money or can see the potential for making money to promote their own and our discomfort, because money is the motivator and money buys comfort for those that can afford.

Now carbon credits for example, the idea of paying money to who for what and does it really help, I suspect not, it is just another tax.

Carbon footprint, hey no one asked to be born, maybe sterilisation is the answer.

It's a scam, and a scam the gods that are the scientists are in on, because they are not immune to the desire for wealth, as to remember data obtained can be made to mean anything and stupid us the layman will believe anything we are told by our superiors, those that tell us how to live.

So best to just ignore the rabid doom mongers, for they have been around since the dawn of mankind, and live your life, as to what comes if it comes, do what mankind has always been good at and perhaps the reason it has got this far; adapt to survive, growing lands grown out, move to better lands, river dried up, find another river etc, just what animal herds do, see them at it on the nature programmes on the tv, we are no different.

Or is it what comfort you have now, you don't envisage it changing - everything changes, nature dictates that, it is stronger than us and always will be.

But as to mentally ill, well mentally ill what does that mean, anything that authority has decided, or is it applying the term mentally ill is just a weapon to fight or ignore those that cannot be brainwashed by rhetoric.

'' Oh ignore them, they are mentally ill, therefore they have nothing to say that we will believe, because they are mentally ill ''

I do not. I consider this approach stupid. I listen first what people have to say. There have been "kooks" before, for example Nicolaus Copernicus.
