BlueSlackEmperor -> guys: are you submissive or just beta males? (9/25/2011 2:57:53 PM)

have you ever stood up straight and taken a hard look at yourself? i've attended a multitude of real life events in the past few months, and i meet a striking number of men who call themselves "submissive" but really seem simply to be afraid of women. when we're just talking man to man it becomes clear that many of these "subs" have a nasty misogynist side to them and would like to be calling the shots in a relationship but don't really have the backbone.

how many of you guys have probed your own characters and decided whether you're really a submissive or whether you've defaulted to calling yourself "submissive" simply because you're a tremulous, timorous beta-type?

I've taken that long hard look at myself and have concluded that I'm not only much more of a real submissive than any other man but also have a larger whanger than anyone else - including you, BSE.

I love you, Peon. In that mushy, I want to bite you until I draw blood way.

PeonForHer -> RE: guys: are you submissive or just beta males? (9/25/2011 3:39:57 PM)

Most people wouldn't associate 'mushy' love with biting out a man's arteries, hon. I don't remember Ingrid Bergman doing that with Jimmy Stewart, for instance. Just saying.

That's really very insulting.

Arteries? No, no, that spot where the neck meets the shoulder. Things would be happening elsewhere, too.

Oh well, that's fine then. There's nothing at all vulnerable in my neck, nor indeed anywhere above it. [:)]

I know! You are my dream date! Now where is my boiler suit pic?

PeonForHer -> RE: guys: are you submissive or just beta males? (9/25/2011 4:04:38 PM)

OK, to be serious, BSE:

I think that sub males will tend to be somewhat more in awe of females than your average vanilla male. Even I am, though I think you might be hard put to find an example of that here. Perhaps, also, there's a misogynism, born of an unrealistic view of women as 'Goddesses' who, inevitably, are going to fall and become demons. I have caught more than a whiff of that.

But I don't recognise the rest of the stuff about submales only identifying as such because they're timorous beta types. To me, that's akin to the view that lesbians are only lesbians because they're too ugly to attract men. For me, here on CM, and in real time, that's never been borne out.

PeonForHer -> RE: guys: are you submissive or just beta males? (9/25/2011 4:06:04 PM)

Oh right - yes! I'm going to do one of those!

i've kinda seen what he's talking about -- "submissive" men who view women as weak and something to despise, which then adds to their self-humiliation by submitting to one. it's more common than you think, really.

Well, I just can't fathom that, Lilly. I'm not denying your experience, but I've not seen it before. Perhaps there are more screwed-up 'malesubs' around than I've realised. I'll have to leave it to one of the OP's target group to talk to him, then. I can't relate to what he's saying and can't see any point in my discussing the matter.

I have seen what Lilly is referring to, though rarely, thank heavens.

This alpha/beta nonsense needs to die. Humans are not pack animals.

It's actually bollocks even when applied to pack animals, so the naturalists have recently discovered. Still, there are varieties of submissives and dominants who enjoy creaming their pants over the idea far too much for it to go away any time soon.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: guys: are you submissive or just beta males? (9/25/2011 5:55:32 PM)

Sadly true. Aand most of them couldn't tell a bonobo from a chimp.

PeonForHer -> RE: guys: are you submissive or just beta males? (9/25/2011 6:13:06 PM)

FR

To be honest, this OP has more than a hint of "Look at me, I'm the real deal, all you other supposed 'male subs' are so much lesser. " It's an opportunity for the OP to puff himself up at the expense of sub males and also for femdoms with sundry grudges about male subs to let off a good old pound or two of steam. And a few of the more cretinous male Doms may also want to turn up to weigh in with their standard 'Aren't male subs snivelling and unnatural' views. Whatever, though, I can't be bothered with the way I know this thread is going to go. It'll just be shit that I don't need to own nor to deal with.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: guys: are you submissive or just beta males? (9/25/2011 6:14:56 PM)

As long as I get my picture. [;)]

i've spoken to a few (online, admittedly) and i think they think i'll be okay with it because they think that that's where my submission comes from; that i'll agree that i'm weak, and so i submit for that reason.
of course, dudes like this say all kinds of things to femsubs for all sorts of reasons, but they all had profile/group post history that reflected the ideology before they ever talked to me about it.

I've definitely seen what she's talking about. It's usually the so-called 'alpha' types, though. The ones who are powerful in regular life but submit on weekends - they get off on submitting to someone "beneath" them. Most don't see it as sexist, but how could it not be in all truth?

I'd say those guys are pretty rare, though. As to the question, I really think the alpha/beta dichotomy just doesn't sufficiently explain human interactions, even with all the other random letters people have been adding to make themselves feel better.
