Sanity -> $200K Per Job? Geithner Says White House Plan Still Bargain... (9/26/2011 6:01:07 PM)

From the, "We have morons in charge" Department:

$200K Per Job? Timothy Geithner Says White House Jobs Plan Is Still a Bargain

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner didn't dispute a Harvard economist's estimate that each job in the White House's jobs plan would cost $200,000, but said the pricetag is the wrong way to measure the bill's worth.

And he also pointed out, in an interview today with ABC News' David Muir, that there is no other option on the table for getting the economy moving and putting more people back to work.

"You've got to think about the costs of the alternatives," Geithner said when asked about Harvard economist Martin Feldstein's calculation that each job created by President Obama's American Jobs Act would cost taxpayers about $200,000.

I hope to God these guys arent Harvards best and brightest. If they are, we are SO fucked.

How many jobs did we get from the billions bush`s tax cuts cost us?

Like close to zero.

That`s like a billion dollars per job,or more.

Maybe we should just give 10 people $20,000 each ? Only 13 months until regime change..

DarkSteven -> RE: $200K Per Job? Geithner Says White House Plan Still Bargain... (9/26/2011 6:31:18 PM)

What a moron.  The estimates can't be anything but an approximation.  If Geithner wasn't too lazy to review it, or have his staffers do so, he could have found a dozen invalid assumptions.  That would be the case in any economic analysis.

WE LOST...
Somewhere along the lines of 7% of the total Jobs that existed before it.
( if you don't blame the current administration at all.)

Why not take that 'fine' mind of yours and give it a workout with a paper bag and a can of spraypaint?

My feeling is it is near impossible to correctly estimate how many jobs Obama plan actually creates. The first stimulus plan 2009 did not achieve its goals. For example, how do you estimate with some acceptable precision how many jobs payroll tax cuts will create? Lot of his plan has to do with "saving" jobs. The last is very difficult to estimate. Infrastructure projects are temporary. People (mostly illegal aliens) will spend couple of years working and then what? The economy is structurally in stagnant mode. The money would be better spent if used to radically reform it. It would take years to show the results though. Obama administration certainly knows the stimulus plan will not produce prolonged growth. The goal is to win time and survive the coming elections. I doubt they can actually stretch relative stability this far.

That was due to Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, and their housing bubble

Imo, the US is shooting itself in the foot big time. The regulations go from bad to outrageous, and the fees [sm=ofcourse.gif] (for those that dont get it, fees are just another word for tax). Shooting yourselves in the foot cuz you are even killing the businesses people are trying to start in this recession. Page 3 Carzini in Palm Beach- "I spent more than $100,000 trying to comply with all those regulations and I was open only six months."
Oh, and we see how those tax incentives "help" but dont and then more regs mean even higher costs- Page 7 Advantage Payroll Services- "It's so bad that I have to pay an outside agency nearly $20,000 a year just to take care of the paperwork."

People wonder why companies go overseas, what i wonder is given the regulation nightmare, why they would ever come back..

Don't leave out James Johnson, who may be the single biggest culprit in the whole debacle. Of course he winds up as a Blowboy advisor.
