Hunter is an idiot. To have published a transcript that didnt include the intentional use of "dialect" would have been fraudulent. Its one thing to fix unintentional slips in grammar (even that is questionable, imo) , but when it changes a core part of the message so that its more palatable for a different audience, its unconscionable.

When I heard the recording I was of the opinion that "Jew" may have been what the word sounded like but I didnt think it was what he was actually thinking. It sounded more like the word he was beginning to say was clipped short, and it only sounded like he said "Jew".

I think the incident was blown entirely out of proportion.

Dropped G's is a lot more of a southern thing than a black thing.

Is that the best they can bitch about? I think they've finally found something more petty than his feet on the desk or the umbrella carrier.

The economy is in the shitter, unemployment is 9+% houses are being foreclosed on, we've got soldiers dying in the sandbox and they're worried about whether he said going or goin'

Christ on a fuckin' bagel.

Don't be ridiculous. All through the 2008 campaign his pandering to black audiences by using dialect was well documented.

Come to the south, wilbur. You will hear words ending with in' from everyone. Black, white, Native Americans, native born hispanics, asians (listen to Henry Cho if you don't believe that last one).

The dropped g as a part of dialect moved northward during the early and mid 20th century with southerners (mostly black) moved north to factory jobs in the rust belt and the Northeast.

Sorry but it isnt a 'black thang'.

Reminds me of when a friend from college took me to his old neighborhood in Liberty City to a restaurant that advertised "Soul Food". I'm probably the only white face in a 2 block radius and it was awesome. The cook came out and asked how I liked it and I looked her right in the eye and told her "Just like My grandmother cooks it". What some call "Soul Food" is just basic poor folks' Southern Cooking. It's the same with dialects.

The term picayune is coming to mind as to why this is even a thread....

Come back when Obama adopts it speaking to a white audience in South Carolina. Ie you wont be back, because he'd be laughed or booed off the stage.

Hillwilliam -> RE: AP, MSNBC and racism (9/27/2011 2:43:02 PM)

If he speaks to an audience in South Carolina, it will likely be mixed. Most areas of that state are fairly well mixed as to who lives wherre.

If I remember and he bothers to campaign there (It's a VERY blue state and he might not even bother) I'll listen but it'll be next summer.

Why don't you post about stuff you know about instead of pouncing on everything and looking like an idiot when it's obvious you're totally ignorant of the subject matter?
