For the very same reason the police in the UK often say it is illegal to film the police in action, which it's not, they simply do not want any evidence that they have done wrong, so remove the independant recorders, then they have a free hand to abuse people's rights. Is this in any way similar to the situation debated in the thread recently where security had abused people's rights in a public park, because if it is, it could even be an extension of the ill conceived patriot act, where traditional peace keeping has been perverted. But it is worth understanding what police officer could mean, because it could mean something entirely different from what you think it means; Police is similar to the word policy, and officer, where does one find officers if not in some official situation, possible corporate situations as in office and one has to be very careful of legal terminology, because often legal terminology, legalese does not mean what the layman thinks it means.
