Yeah, mentors are great and all, but there are good ones and bad ones. Someone can be a great fire player and a terrible teacher, and then there are shitty fire players. I've been doing BDSM style fire play for 3 years, and have been a fire performer for over 7. Fire and fire safety is a bit of science, philosophy, and down right understanding. Learning a checklist of things to have does no good if you don't get how flame behaves, and the instinct isn't there to do what needs to be done when things get out of hand, and at some point they will. It's about knowing the flame, knowing the equipment, knowing the fuel, and how things burn. It's about taking it slow, and always respecting that fire is dangerous no longer how many times you've lit up, and how experienced you are. 7 years of experience and I still take new shit slow. Learned how to safely do fire balls 2 years ago, finally got the nerve to try it myself 2 months So many fire accidents happen due to over confidence and carelessness.
