Did Belforti's all seeing God not notice she had been getting her deputy to sign previous applications by gay couples? Is she making 'Him' a party to hypocrisy? Will she burn in Hell for that, or the denying of civil rights? Maybe she'll just be left a little too close to the fires without refreshment. After all, her God seems open to compromise.

This, to me, seems to illustrate a prime example of how fundamentalist Christianity is falling more and more out of sync with our ever-changing world. I almost feel sorry for her, however the 'God doesn't want me to do it' comment soon stemmed that flow of sympathy. I think it's time she reconsiders her career choice; life's only going to get tougher from here on in!

Then you apparently don't visit the Politics and Religion Section: Rights Collide As Town Clerk Sidesteps Role In Gay Marriage It fits here as well, but when you think about it, funny how it is politics (she is an elected official) and religion (she won't do her job because of her religious beliefs) personified. Anyway, it fits here too. Wish your article offered a bit of an update to what was going on.

The couple didn't want to wait? And now are going to sue...they really need to grow the hec up. Not everyone is going to agree with their life decision and should be allowed to say they are uncomfortable. Arrangements was made to have their document signed all they had to do was wait. Homosexuals have the right to marry, and don't have to hide about your sexuality in the military- expect people to DISAGREE with you and MOVE ON. Instead of forcing themselves on others. Throw religion on this all you want...people just need to suck it up and grow up. All they had to do was WAIT.

because they are different? I dont think so, its got naff all with religion, its got to do with ignorance and belief in a superiority of having the right to dictate their rights and to penalise them for not being what you think they should be.

All they had to do was wait. People are sue happy and so immature. How many others have been treated poorly. You speak to the manager, the supervisor, someone above the person treating you poorly and like an adult address your complaint or concern. What you don't do is sue. All these silly tantrums. Once more an attempt in making a statement about something that is already their right in the state of New York. If the official refused to sign make a complaint up against them. Please don't spend my tax dollars on this.

I didn t say anything about suing..I did say why should they wait because of their orientation??? if it was because she was going on her lunch..it wouldnt have gotton in the papers...much less sued. silly tantrums, ... it may be to you, it obviously hit a nerve, who are YOU to tell them what they can expect and cannot? you dont get to decide what parts you pay for and dont..It is legal in NY. They were not doing something illegal.

As the woman is the town clerk, who should they go complain to, the mayor? And if it was an interracial couple being told that she wouldn't sign the paperwork for, would you be so ready to say they were being childish because some town official wants to say she doesn't have to do her job because her religion tells her she doesn't have to?

your a civil servant your supposed to leave your personal views at home. let consenting adults do what they want. More we treat gay guys with tolerance the more women have to come off their high horse and the better for MEN it will be because the competition will be in OUR favor. you can't take a piece of plastic home to mom.
