i did not expect that:

Open a new Word document and write:

= rand (200,99)

Then press "enter"
Wait for a couple of seconds and look again...
Not even Microsoft people can explain that one.

are there any other bizarre things like that out there?

It's the standard typing test or font test as it has ever letter of the alphabet in it.

Microsoft people know all about this.  It's a test feature that's been in MS Word for a *long* time and it's used for creating dummy text for template/layout design.

=rand(x,y)  will create 'x' paragraphs consisting of  'y' sentences of text.  Lorem Ipsum is generally preferred for this purpose as it does not produce the same recurring patterns in line and paragraph breaks that the MS Word tool does.

cool, admittedly i didn't read it thorough;y when i posted it, else i would have removed that bit as it's fairly obvious that microsoft would know about it. d'oh!

Hey, it's great for 'page layout'; and at least it's in English rather than Latin!  LOL

Fun stuff, reminds me when Excel had a 'flight-simulator program' burried within it.  Remember THAT???

PS:  OMG...I'm Indecent   <weg>

er, nope, but i'm intrigued!

Bearlee -> RE: microsoft word (5/24/2006 5:41:32 AM)

LOL... the flight simulator is long gone.  There was a couple of key-strokes, not unlike the OP mentioned for her 'buried treasure'...that launched a program within the spreadsheet program, Excel.  It was a simple little flight simulator...you 'guided' the plane with the arrow-keys on the keyboard.  There was even a 'list of credits' when you exited the silly thing.

Personally, is it any wonder MS products are so damn FAT?  <shakes head>
