Did they target a US satellite? No. Then it wasn't what Bachmann claimed.

Satellite Laser Ranging in China

The Defense News report indicates that the targeted satellites were U.S. military imaging satellites. Laser illumination of these satellites is a concern because relatively low-power laser light could interfere with or potentially damage their sensitive detectors... These statements imply that the United States has indications China aimed lasers at a U.S. satellite or satellites, but that the illumination did not significantly affect the satellite, nor was it clear that was the intention.

Chinese Anti-Satellite [ASAT] Capabilities

In August 2006 there were reports that China had fired high-power lasers at American intelligence satellites flying over its territory. National Reconnaissance Office Director, Donald M. Kerr, told reporters that a US satellite had recently been "painted," or illuminated, by a ground-based laser in China. Some observers saw this as tests of Chinese capability to blind the spacecraft, while others took it as being tests of a laser radar for guiding a direct ascent kinetic energy ASAT. It was unclear how many times a the ground-based laser was tested against US spacecraft.

Michele Bachmann is on the House Intelligence Committee so we must believe because she is on the house intelligence committee. But not the president the Commander and Chief of the US Military. I still dont believe that Osama bin Laden is dead until I see his long form birth certificate. But I know he Assassinated that American Citizen guy working for Al Qaeda because Obama hates America. Michele Bachmann knows what is going on in the world, her husband tells and debriefs her on everything.

Which means we need to outsource more China because that way they cant afford to build more satellites to test their lasers on. Hell we need to give them more American Technology like iPads so they never succeed at becoming a technical power house.

Did you actually read this article? The parts where the author said it was more likely laser ranging of the satellites orbits and not any sort of test of an ASAT system?

Are you still unable to understand I read every link people post in discussions I'm involved in or do you simply shovel any old shit up that comes up in google and hope for the best?

I'll try to make this simple for you...

What Bachmann claimed (from the OP's link) was :

Michelle Bachmann said "China has blinded United States satellites with their lasers"

And from the same link you quoted from my post, which you claim to have read:

The Defense News report indicates that the targeted satellites were U.S. military imaging satellites. Laser illumination of these satellites is a concern because relatively low-power laser light could interfere with or potentially damage their sensitive detectors...

Our analysis shows that... under some conditions an SLR laser could briefly obscure the images collected by the satellite in the immediate vicinity of the laser station (this effect is known as "dazzling")...

So what the fuck is your problem, beside that you got called for making shit up again?

erieangel -> RE: Bachmann's latest. (10/2/2011 12:06:13 PM)

Yeah, and I can do the very same thing with a simple store-bought laser.  Shine a laser toward an air plane at night and it can blind the pilots enough that the plane could come down.

This is a non-story and nothing more than yet another attempt at fear mongering by Bachmann.

Could is not did. Bachmann claimed they had blinded US satellites. So either Bachmann is lying or she violated the National Secuirty act and no amount of blathering about completely non blinding laser ranging changes that.

Personally, I don't expect a whizgash like Bachmann to know the difference between dazzled and blinded. But it's nice to see that there's someone who gives her that much credit. Are you going to vote for her?

Gee! Bachmann is on the House "Intelligence" Committee? Is that for real?

Isn't that a bit like Ghadaffi's Libya or Saudi Arabia being on the UN Human Rights Council?

Has "the lunatics are running the asylum" become universal policy now? [8|]

Lucylastic -> RE: Bachmann's latest. (10/3/2011 7:00:50 AM)

Bush was in charge for 8 years, and you need to ask that question??? grins

I'm still trying to wrap My head around 'Bachman' and 'intelligence' in the same sentence.

Moonhead -> RE: Bachmann's latest. (10/3/2011 1:59:06 PM)

"Bachmann has no intelligence."
See? Easy.
