I'm not advocating for anything of the sort, Tazzy, but haven't you ever seen where a homeless encampment has been removed? They could probably do it on health code violations, if the political will exists to do it at all.

Its a peaceful protest. Other than ensuring public safety if problems begin, what grounds would they have to "move" people along?

I'm sure they would find something here:

New York Penal Law

I think by this point the police are under such scrutiny that removing them for that would not be a viable option.

I see one potential.

Section 240.20 Disorderly conduct

A person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof:

1. He engages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior; or

2. He makes unreasonable noise; or

3. In a public place, he uses abusive or obscene language, or makes an obscene gesture; or

4. Without lawful authority, he disturbs any lawful assembly or meeting of persons; or

5. He obstructs vehicular or pedestrian traffic; or

6. He congregates with other persons in a public place and refuses to comply with a lawful order of the police to disperse; or

7. He creates a hazardous or physically offensive condition by any act which serves no legitimate purpose.

Disorderly conduct is a violation.

And Im sure they are being very careful with this one.... on both sides.

Could be hanging out on Wall Street, beating the drum until somebody forgives the $80,000 student loan debt for that degree in theatrical humanities.

Sounds like Bloomberg doesn't know what is going on or why it is happening.

Mr. Bloomberg doesn't apparently read his own news network. But who's out of touch is the guy who ecouraged bloomberg to become a faux democrat. Rich Fake... hangs more with the GOP than his own party

How about we just stop treating Corporations as if they were real people, and see how that works out before you start going and forgiving debt...

Hey, Fargle? Do you remember your mom telling you that if you kept crossing your eyes, they'd get stuck like that?

She was right.

You mean you still have him visible?

Think of all the valuable time you are mis-using.  You already know exactly what he is going to say, doncha? [:D]

Are my eyes deceiving me or are the OWS people starting to articulate some demands that cross the left-right divide?

Who could disagree with the proposition that those responsible for the Global Financial Crisis ought to be held accountable for their mistakes and greed? We're not talking about accounts clerks or computer operators here - the clear targets are those who have made and continue to make mega-fortunes out of the misery they've caused.

Is this the right place to open a discussion on a bank transaction tax? This idea notes that most trades on the money markets are 'open' for less than a minute. These trades are purely speculative. It proposes a tax on any profits accruing from such speculation. The aim is to discourage pure speculation by financial institutions.

Penalising speculation would have three desirable effects - it would decrease the government budget deficit, make financial institutions more secure and would encourage investment in longer-term more productive areas, areas that might actually produce jobs. While markets need a certain amount of speculation to maintain liquidity, it's difficult to see how penalising such short lived trades could adversely affect liquidity - so the downside of the this tax is very limited.

TheHeretic -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 8:46:38 PM)

Even a rare chuckle can go a long way, Firm.

I'm wondering though. We've been speculating a bit here about the movement being co-opted by the more mainstream left (see the unions rushing in to "help"), but what happens if it goes the other way, and the riot minded anarchists start creating violence and mayhem?

tazzygirl -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 9:21:55 PM)

Like the police officer who maced the women? He wasnt suspended, but should be. This isnt his first time in trouble either. 2004 he got into hot water as well as a Republican Protest rally.

He knows exactly whats going on...its the "protestors" who dont understand who they are actually hurting.

Really? That fucking Rudy-Replacement thinks like a man with 16 billion. He's a democrat because he couldn't run republican and he puts on pee pants all the time because he is left out of the party national. And you like him because he's basically a republican. And the funny part is he wouldn't scrape the poodle shit off his shoe on you cause he thinks the Nouveau riche of california (and PARTICULARLY THEIR WANNA-BEES) are white trash.
The only good thing I can say about his is he allowed himself to be excluded from the journalistic policy of his news network. Which has kept it honest to a degree
I thought you didn't use drugs - Please read caption and do as Morgan Chase tells you.
