There is a thread happening right now in Ask a Submissive/Slave and it made me think, but I don't want to de-rail it, so.....

How do you define success? Money? Healthy relationships/boundaries? Material possessions? Having his/her shit together? Something else? I'll be interested in any/all input.

Following one's passions is how I define success.

As stated in that thread, "success" is relative... for some it equates to having millions of dollars, for others it equates to being financially stable, for others it equates to some level of notoriety, and for others still it's something entirely different.  It varies.

Being good at a vocation that you are passionate about, but doesn't encompass your entire life.
Providing well for your children, and a close and affectionate relationship with them.
At least cordial relationships with other significant people in your life, like parents, ex spouses, business partners, bosses, etc.

Myotherself said it best in my mind.

They are taking the lead in their own lives and are providing themselves with what they need to be successful and happy.

Being happy is being successful in my opinion. Happiness brings balance, confidence and security. You can have all other things and still not be happy and will not be balanced, confident or secure.

Whether you are submissive or dominant or a mix between the two, you must be focused on taking your life to places where you will be happy and live true to who you are. All else can mean little until you have this. Once you are happy... really happy within... there is little that can steal it away.

Being happy with what you have instead of being unhappy about what you don't have.

That's what I was thinking, that success would be defined as many ways as there are people answering. I define success, not so much about money, but as doing something you love and are good at, conducting your life as a stable person with your shit together, having healthy relationships, etc.

I've always liked Emerson's definition:

"To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Happiness, contentment, serenity, and peace. If I have achieved these, I have achieved success.

Achieving one of your life's goals. Whatever it is you want most in life, success means getting it.

Success to me is getting what you want and where you want to be while also being kind, patient, and moral. Also, being able to adjust those goals according to what your responsibilities are first. Being a life-long learner is also important and taking care of the people who depend on you in the best way that you can because their needs will usually come before yours.

It's funny, i can't actively describe this -- bt i know it when i see it.  Just as many people have said what they define success at - to me, each person i see would have a different success definition to me by my standards.

Success depends on the individual person, and definitions shouldn't be applied the same because people are different.

success: you have your all your ducks in a row...meaning you are stable in your financial life and you're emotionally and spiritually healthy.

For me it has nothing to do on the material things you have. It has everything to do with using what you have to make your life happy and healthy.
