My beliefs are integral with the way that I do everything, including the way that I live in my chosen lifestyle. That doesn't mean that everyone has to have a spiritual foundation for BDSM, but it does mean that, for me, the two are integral.

I would hazard that if you are the kind of person whose spiritual views permeate every area of your life, you would have a hard time conceiving of something as intense as living in this lifestyle without it being a part of your spirituality. If you're the kind of person whose spirituality is less encompassing, BDSM may be one of any number of areas in your life that isn't touched by your spiritual concepts.

To each hir own.

Hello,

i have often been to lot's of leather events and i always hear from the presenters that you should walk your spiritual path, what ever that path may be.

so my question is do you believe that this lifestyle and a belief, faith or religion need to go hand in hand or that it can be mutually seperate?

just curious to what O/others think.

I am a strong Buddhist and if anything, it encourages BDSM.

ummmm nope ... no atheists in any of my holes

<spanks herself for getting off-topic heheh>
OK .. I used to think I was an atheist, as I didn't know what to be believe in. Father was Catholic, but baptized Anglican, irregularly went to church, even sang in a choir (both alto & soprano). When I was with the Employment and Immigration department here in Canada, I worked on policies dealing with developing cultural and religious sensitivity .. of employment and immigration officers .. so became aware of soooo much more.

And then attending a small liberal arts&science university opened me to more, BDSM to still more, and I too am quite into yoga (it stretches the mind as well as the body) ... and, wondering could it all be true?

Rather than saying it is not this or that, or =) asking if spirituality is belief, faith OR religion .. I think that spirituality is belief, faith AND religion .. that it is many things, feelings, experiences coming together.

My actual spiritual *awakening* came from, of all places, a movie Belushi made before he overdosed .. a romantic comedy entitled "Continental Divide". Belushi's character, a hard-nosed, hard-assed reporter from the big city, is sent to the Rockies to interview a conservationalist. In one scene, she and him are on a mountain-top and he cries out to her, "how can you stay in this God-forsaken place?!?" .. She softly says something like, "how can God forsake this place? Take a look around .. God is everywhere, within you and without" .. while the camera pans the mountain-scape.

Wow .. I was filled with awe

At times, I still feel this awe .. and it comes spontaneously from many things .. standing on a mountain, yoga, snuggling with my child =) or quiet contemplation. I like sitting in a church, as the heights expand the mind. I have come to believe that BDSM is as well spiritual. Mind-expanding, mind-altering, succumbing to a greater will .. yummy =)

Ummm there's more .. alas, I am out of time ..
Enjoy the day!

I believe what is proven. I have faith in certain people, till they prove it unwarranted. I have no use for most of religion, it is too easily perverted to be a form of control through fear and shame.
